In the early 2008 season, his numbers are better at home than on the road. If you can call a .581 OPS "better" than something.

Can Khalil get his offense going at all? Offensively he's not all that good besides the occasional HR

Look at his home/away splits:

Get him away from those cavernous ballparks in the NL west and he tends to rake.

You mean like those cavernous places where offense goes to die like Arizona and Coors? The splits would be more informative if the OPS+ number was adjusted for the league, not the team also.

The split is obviously hinged more on Petco than anywhere else. It's a pretty startling difference, especially in regard to his power numbers. It's not a stretch at all to think that his home numbers would drastically improve hitting in a place like Wrigley as his home park instead of Petco.

Parks like that can weigh on a hitters mind imo and change his mechanics as well. .

Didn't people here do an analysis and determine that Greene could have hit 10 more HRs last year if he played somewhere other than Petco?

it's better than a broken jaw

Do you have the stats to back that up?

or being a ginger

He's not normally a slow starter, at least not this slow.

Before we go crazy and mess with this team, let's give it a couple of months. Two more months might tell us whether Johnson really is an everyday CF, whether Pie and Cedeno are ready to be stars, whether Greene is really worth giving up that much for, and whether an upgrade at SS is our biggest need at the deadline.

He's what...around 28/29? I wonder if playing in Wrigley would give him a little jolt of confidence.

When 2008 is all said and done, it will be anothe 800+ Away OPS for Greene. I'd do a Pie for Greene swap in a heartbeat.

I think a lot of us would, but what about a Greene for Pie+Cedeno? or Greene+Prospect for Pie+Cedeno+Murton?

Sure. Cedeno is going to shart the bed any day now..IMO.

I'd much rather offer Theriot, Murton and Pie than Cedeno and Pie. If Cedeno continues to produce, I could easily see him replacing DeRosa at the end of his contract (in the scenario that the cubs upgrade at SS). And if nothing else, he's an above average sub.

That said, I think Theriot can be a very passable sub himself and would probably have no problem doing Cedeno + Pie.

So what do we do when Reed starts hitting RH pitching the way he has for the rest of his career?

We'd have Greene mashing and an offensive hole in CF as opposed (maybe) to offensive holes at CF and SS.

Or when Pie puts up better numbers than Johnson over a full season?

WE'D HAVE GREENE.

Dear Lord, it's not like they'd be trading away Pie for nothing.

We'd also have Reed Johnson as a full time CF. I'm not sure Pie + Cedeno is going to wind up as worse than Johnson + Greene. That's without even figuring trading away 2 players with another 9(?) years of team control to go with players with 2(?) years of team control.

If you are among those that believe that Pie is in the doghouse though, then there's nothing to lose here. Pie wouldn't be getting the shot with the Cubs, so you might as well do what you can and get Greene out of it. What's the CF free agent class look like for next year?

Greene going to hit AT LEAST 15-20 homers with 70 RBI's. Can Pie and\or Cedeno match those numbers?
