This was already mentioned in another thread, but the Cubs made quite a few transactions yesterday/today:

LHP Les Walrond (Iowa) was released.

RHP Justin Berg was promoted from Tennessee to Iowa.

LHP James Russell (who made his pro debut last August) was promoted from Daytona to Tennessee.

RHP Juan Mateo was demoted from Tennessee to Daytona (ouch, the freefall continues).

RHP Chad Fox was promoted from Daytona to Tennessee.

Rehabbing LHP Scott Eyre is up to Tennessee from Daytona.

Good outing from Chen. Nice to see Donaldson with an XBH and a walk too.

Heh, ERA-wise that was his second worst outing of the year and the most runs he's given up all season.

Where have you gone Juan Mateo? Crap, he had a good arm.

Yeah, I'm wondering this too. I went to a Peoria game when he was rehabbing last year and he looked decent. What the heck has happened to him in the last 8 months?

AZ Phil at Fitch

- Grant Johnson pitched in-game, as did Jim Henderson and Arik Hempy.

- Jeffry Antigua looked good.

- Angel Guzman is throwing bullpen side sessions.

- Larry Suarez had TJS.

- 3 new Venezuelan guys at Fitch, SS George Matheus and recent signees RHP Israel Camacaro and OF Cesar Salazar.

Is Chen a legit prospect or more of an organizational type of guy? He's short and not super young, but so far he seems to have solid control and a groundball profile.

He got a 6-figure bonus last year so that's got to mean he's got to be something. Steve Wilson thought of him as a reliever when he signed; if that's the case, hopefully he can move up quickly.

Thanks!

Maybe we should just give every vaguely promising pitching prospect in this system TJS and get it out of the way.
Somebody actually suggested that idea for all pitchers a few years ago, since recovery from TJS is fairly routine now and many pitchers are stronger after recovery. I don't think that idea got any real support, though.
