When Edmonds played for the Angles I saw a game in Yankee Stadium in which he made the most incredible catch I've ever seen. it was Johnson's catch except he had his back to the infield when he dove and caught it.

Sucks to say, but that's probably the best catch I've seen too.

Sammy's catch against the Pirates I think in 05? Or 04?

Sammy wasn't on the team in 05. That was in 04 and it was with the bases loaded that preserved a 1-0 lead.

agreed. i was at a bar and one of the stupid "best damn ___" things was on, and it was best damn baseball plays. immediately i thought "the edmonds play had better be one of the top three of all time or this is a sham," and it was either #1 or #2.

Fun fact: The only run scored in that game came when Carlos Zambrano drew a bases-loaded walk in the 5th inning.

This is a hilarious half-inning game log :

CUBS 5TH: Alou lined to left; Sosa struck out; Garciaparra

walked; Grudzielanek singled to right [Garciaparra to second];

Barrett walked [Garciaparra to third, Grudzielanek to second];

Zambrano walked [Garciaparra scored, Grudzielanek to third,

Barrett to second]; Patterson struck out; 1 R, 1 H, 0 E, 3 LOB.

Cubs 1, Pirates 0.

How far we've come from Corey Patterson, leading off in center field.

Great catch. Johnson has been a wonderful addition. Time to give Hendry some credit for this pickup.

He's hitting for no power, but he's been solid otherwise.

I bet he hits a fair amount when it's all said and done. That PH double in his first AB nearly was a HR (I think on April 1), and he's had some deep drives.

From where I was sitting, I didn't think Reed had a prayer of being in the same zip code when that ball came down. I was half way down to plopping in my seat waiting for the batter to finish running out his triple, and when I never saw the ball bounce away I crapped my pants. Unreal. Thanks for putting this up AramisFan.

As far as catches go, I agree (though HM to GMJ in 2006). For best baseball plays I've ever seen, I'd have to go with the Wizard of Oz's barehanded play on a bad hop (Wrigley?) as he was diving toward the hole. Most unbelievable play I've ever seen.
