Post some of your stupid trade offers here. I recently rejected a trade offer where I would give up Brandon Webb in return for Prince Fielder. Webb has been awesome this year and Fielder has sucked. Also, I already have Derrek Lee AND Mike Jacobs on that team. Why would I trade my best pitcher for a struggling position player that I have no room for?

Well because Prince is still good and will probably hit 40-50 HRs this year.

That said, in your situation its a no brainer to reject that trade. But in a vacuum it might not be a horrible trade

Last night, another owner in my league offered me my choice of Michael Young or Edgar Renteria for Ryan Braun.

I got a guy in my league to agree to give me Carlos Pena for Todd Helton and Aaron Rowand... but the league vetoed it.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I got offered Billy Butler and Tim Lincecum for Johan Santana. Later, he "upped" the offer to Mark Teixeira, Jon Rauch, and Tony Pena. Oh, and he also wanted Joakim Soria thrown in the second deal.

Didn't really want to start a new topic, as this is still a pretty stupid offer, but wanted to see if you guys had any input or whatever...

10 team mixed league, H2H weekly, 6x6 (basics plus OPS, quality starts), all offensive positions + utility, 4 SP, 2 RP, 1 P, 3 total bench spots, and a DL spot.

C-Brian McCann

1B-Todd Helton

2B-Brian Roberts

SS-Jose Reyes

3B-Evan Longoria

OF-Grady Sizemore

OF-Nick Swisher

OF-Jeremy Hermida

Util-Soto

Bench-Ellsbury, Zimmerman

SP-Webb, Hamels, Jered Weaver, Marcum

RP-Sherill, Francisco Cordero

P-BJ Ryan

Bench-Lackey

DL-Kazmir

The trade offer I'm getting is Ellsbury+Hamels for Joe Nathan+Bobby Abreu. Obviously not the best trade to make, but apparently everyone got tired of me picking up a new starting pitcher every day, and the new rule is 6 starts per week. Which means in about 3 weeks, when Lackey and Kazmir come off the DL, I'll have 7 starting pitchers able to make 6 starts total for the week. Clearly I need to get rid of starting pitchers.

Do I even consider that trade? Which positions should I look to upgrade with my surplus of starting pitchers, and which starters should I be more willing to give up than others?

Any opinions would be appreciated, thanks...

Thanks dude.

In my defense Otis, I'm basically offering Prince to every team in that league for a good pitcher. You aren't special.

In one league someone offered me Nick Swisher for Kerry Wood when my OF is already Hamilton, Fukudome, and Burrell with Soriano on the DL. It's not a bad deal, but what made me laugh is when I rejected it, he resent the offer, but this time he re-upped by offering me Swisher and Ted Lilly for Wood.

Sorry. I didn't mean to single you out.

My favorite is when somebody either

a) picks up a player and then tries to include him in a trade the next day

or

b) tries to trade a crappy player and then ends up dropping him the next day after nobody falls for it

There was someone in one of the NSBB leagues last year who did that to no end, and to me especially. They wanted Roy Oswalt and kept offering me crap they just picked up, like David Dejesus and players like that coupled with a good player I didn't need.

Don't mean to alienate anyone on here, since it was a trade in an NSBB league, but someone offered me Adam Jones and Jeremy Bonderman for Conor Jackson. I wasn't about to trade one of the hottest hitters in baseball for an unproven rookie and a below average pitcher. I need pitching, but not at the expense of my currently best hitter, and not someone who will arguably make my pitching worse.

I love reading stuff like this. Seems like every year that's at least a handful of trade offers I make that someone rejects and says "that's stupid" and within a month I'm thanking my lucky stars that they rejected it b/c either the guy I was seeking tanked or the guy I offered took off (or rebounded, as the case may be).

In one of my leagues someone offered me Francisco Liriano and Kelly Johnson for Chase Utley. Um, no thanks.

Was that after his outing last night where he gave up 3 times as many ER as he got outs?

You know what I love? When you try to trade, for example, your 3rd first basemen b/c someone really needs a 1B and you really need a SS (b/c, e.g., Tulo sucks to start the year) and the guy tells you he has no interest in the player you offered. So you end up having to drop him b/c he's useless for your team, no one will give anything up for him, and you need the upgrade somewhere else. Then, lo and behold, the guy who "had no interest" claims him off waivers.

No, it was about a week ago. He hadn't stunk THAT bad yet, but it certainly looked like he wasn't back in form yet.

If this were a keeper league rather than year-to-year it wouldn't have seemed like such a bad trade. I still like Liriano long-term, just not this year returning from TJS. He could be like Kerry Wood in 1999 and have a good second half of the season after struggling the first half.

That's the second time in the past week or so that I've seen someone mention Wood's 1999 season. There's only one problem. Wood missed the ENTIRE season that year.

Oops, and I think it was me that mentioned it both times.

I meant 2000 season.

I was just offered the privilege of acquiring Ryan Braun, at the low, low cost of Chipper Jones and George Sherrill. I also have Evan Longoria.

Thats not that terrible of a trade offer. Chipper is insanely om fire (reminds you of someone from last year...) but is already hurting this early in the season.

Maybe if the third basemen were reversed, but why would I sell high on Chipper only to get another 3B that I'm buying low on? And I add the closer?

Anyway, this guy is obsessed with trying to get Sherrill, the current counter proposal after several back and forths is Sherrill for Braun. Cross your fingers.

No offense, but that trade proposal belongs in this thread about eighty bagillion times more than the original one you posted. Good luck though!

Oh no doubt, I figure it's worth a shot for a guy this focused on getting Sherrill when he already has Pap, Jenks, and Lyon.

Doesn't hurt to try! Which kinda should be the mantra of this thread.
