ESPN so far only reporting Krivsky fired.

I had almost forgotten about this trade:

His most questionable move may have been his July 13, 2006 deal sending everyday starters Austin Kearns and Felipe Lopez along with pitcher Ryan Wagner to the Washington Nationals for pitchers Gary Majewski, Bill Bray and Daryl Thompson; shortstop Royce Clayton; and infielder Brendan Harris.

Wow, was that a historically bad trade. When you are giving away the best three players in a seven player deal involving Jim Bowden, you got worked over.

Good move by the Reds. This should get interesting with Jocketty and the Dusty man.

I honestly don't think it will, considering Jocketty was fired by St. Louis for not embracing some of the new school thinking in developing their farm system and team. He and Dusty are a match made in heaven for each other.

I didn't realize he was that old school, Dusty old school, when it came to players. I've always respected him as a GM.

Why the heck would they do this now? If he was on a short enough leash to fire 20 games into the season, you would think that they would just fire him before any off-season moves were made. Makes no sense.

Yeah, this isn't going to benefit them much this season. At this rate, the Reds will be a non-entity by the time other teams will be ready to deal, and Dusty will negate any intra-system moves that could be of any use.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought when I saw the news story. The Reds let him spend $46M on a relief pitcher in the offseason, then fired him after 20 games. That's silly.

Hyperbole much?

Lopez and Ryan Wagner have both been garbage with Washington. Clayton and Majewski were garbage with the Reds. Kearns and Harris were the two best players in that deal, and there is still a lot of hope for Bray and Thompson.

That trade sucked for both teams.

That's the question. Don't mind the move, but the timing is really odd.

Krivsky did his good things, and he also did some awful things. In the end he didn't win, so I'm not going to complain about him being gone.

Cincy got nothing out of Harris. At the time of the trade, Cincy was giving up the three best players in the deal, and nobody has done anything to dissuade that perception aside from Harris, who's in Minnesota.

yeah, that trade was roundly panned by pretty much every source out there. if it didn't turn out that bad for cincy, it's because they got lucky.

Three best players?

The Nationals couldn't give Lopez away, and does anybody know where Ryan Wagner is?

Again, it was a trade that worked out for nobody. The Nationals traded one of their best relievers (Majewski) and two pitching prospects (Bray, Thompson) as well as there starting SS (Clayton) and backup IF (Harris) and got Austin Kearns (who has been awful this year) and trash in return. The Reds traded their starting SS (Lopez) and RF (Kearns) and flamed out prospect (Wagner) for two pitching prospects (Bray, Thompson), Harris, and trash in return. If the Reds had held onto Harris, it wouldn't look nearly as bad.

Again, the trade was awful for both teams. It could get better for the Reds if Bray and Thompson work out. To call it one of the worst trades of all time is beyond stupid.

Krivsky also got Phillips, Keppinger, Arroyo, Burton for notihng and turned a rule 5 pick into Edinson Volquez, so it all evened out.
