Gammons brought up on ESPN that that Lou would love Fuku in the 2 spot if they could get a run producing CF (sounded like his own speculation and not from Lou) to hit in the 5 spot, and mentioned Milton Bradley as a possibility.

Milton's hitting .323/.416/.500 so far.

Why the bleep would it have to be a run producing CF?!?

Hit Geo Soto in the number five freaking spot behind Ramirez.

"Too bad hes not lefty handed"...remember that comment?

Since BP keeps on bringing up the Pie to the Padres idea, maybe we could bring back Jody Gerut to platoon in center? Hes healthy now and tearing it up in AAA for the Padres.

He's Soto. If he wanted to hit left handed, he could still post a .950 OPS. Imagine how good he'd be with both hands on the bat at once!

Brad Wilkerson cleared waivers...and hits left handed...and can play all 3 OF positions...
Doesn't he make Johnny Damon look like he's got a canon anymore? I haven't seen him play since his surgery, but I hear he hasn't been able to throw worth a darn anymore.

Cubs get: Kevin Millwood and Milton Bradley

Rangers get: Marshall, Murton, Patterson, Marquis, and Veal

Cubs get their #2 starter and switch-hitting CF.

Rangers get 2 starting pitchers, starting OF, 2 future players, and save a lot of money while getting younger.

Hmmm...interesting trade. I'd like to see how Marshall would do in a starter role first though.

Lou doesn't want 3 lefties in the rotation because the NL Central is predominantly right-handed hitters. Of course that's assuming Hill gets back in the rotation.

This is one I have been thinking about all day. And I am really bad at guessing what would be needed for players to make a trade work and I know this guy is about as devisive of a player as you'll find with this place. But I would try to pull a move with Jocketty for Dunn. Something along the lines of Pie, Marshall, Epatt, Murton? Then I would totally and drastically change the lineup, and tweak the rotation just a bit.

1. Fuku .437 OBP

2. Lee .418 OBP .614 SLG

3. Dunn .375 OBP (career .516 SLG)

4. Aramis .412 OBP .533 SLG

5. Soriano Career .513 SLG

6. Soto .430 OBP .618 SLG

7. Derosa .385 OBP .410 SLG

8. Cedeno .473 OBP

That's a whole lineup of not making outs. I don't know what PECOTA projections for all these guys are, but that offense is ridiculous compared to how Lou has been running it out there day after day.

1. Soriano Career OBP of .325

2. Theriot .389 OBP and .410 SLG

3. Lee .418 OBP .614 SLG

4. Aramis .412 OBP .533 SLG

5. Fuku .437 OBP

6. Derosa .385 OBP .410 SLG

7. Soto .430 OBP .618 SLG

8. Pie/Johnson .597 OPS/.677 OPS

Rotation of

Z

Lilly

Dempster

Hill

Leiber (or Gallagher).

As much as I hate seeing Theriot and Johnson starting everyday, I find it incredible that most people are focusing on improving the offense. If we acquired a #1a starter, allowing everyone else to slide down a spot AND push Marquis out of the rotation, it would improve this team a great deal more than adding a decent bat, imo. I mean, I understand that acquiring a 1a is very difficult, but shouldn't we put our few valuable chips toward trying to meet that end before we explore other options?

I agree except for the bolded part. It doesn't really matter if you are called a 1 or 5 starter. The only time it makes much difference is in the playoffs

Isn't Soriano technically a run-producing OF? I mean, if he's doing anything at the plate, it's producing runs.

Or yes, Soto also produces runs, if Soriano has to be the leadoff hitter.

I guess I worded that poorly. I basically just mean knocking Marquis off of the bottom and replacing him with someone who is an ace would turn this team from a playoff caliber team into a real WS caliber team, imo. Adding a player like Dunn could turn our A offense into an A+ offense, but we'd still be left praying that Lilly turns it around and Hill returns and puts up #s comprable to last year. It scares me thinking about who would start a game 2.

I aint never been a proponent of makin a trade just for the sake of makin a trade but man, we have got to do something! Pitching is the key to the success of our season. I like Back to Banks proposal for acquiring Millwood and Bradley. I'd make that deal.

In my sim league, I traded Chris Young For Rich Hill and Nate McLouth. I think we should do the opposite and trade Rich Hill for Chris Young. Then we can trade Felix Pie for Khalil Greene. Then we are absolutely set offensively.

Fukudome

DeRosa

Lee

Ramirez

Young

Soriano

Soto

Greene

I'm a bigger Milton Bradley fan than most people, but I don't really see anything about Kevin Millwood that says #2 starter. They guy has put up a 4.52 and 5.16 ERA the last two years, and actually had better numbers at home last year than on the road. I know most people get a boost from going to the NL, but I'm very confident that Z, Lilly, and Hill will all outproduce by the time the years over, and that seems like a lot to give up for a #4 and an outfielder, especially when you consider that move basically buries Pie.

SInce Beane is always in "sell" mode..what would it take to get Joe Blanton out of Oakland?
Probably Soto and one of the Seans. I think Beane would target Soto, which I wouldn't do.

Vernon Wells broke his wrist. They're going to need a CF now so they don't have to play Rios there. Reed Johnson for A.J. Burnett. Do it. Now.

I'd do the first deal without hesitation.

However, I really don't think Hendry will move Fuku to center since one of Fuku's main reasons for picking Chicago was to play right.

Dunn for Pie, Cedeno, and a lower level pitching prospect.

or

Dunn for Pie and Rich Hill.

The Cubs would be better off just playing Pie, Cedeno, and Hill... unfortunately, Lou isn't that smart.

Dunn is an upcoming FA.

Which would mean two comp picks, almost certainly. And if I knew the first one would be in the #16-20 range, I'd consider the deal a little more seriously... but there's no way to be sure of that.

Can some one with insider help me out?

This is the written version of what Gammons said about a run producing CF from MLBTR:

Gammons says Cubs manager Lou Piniella would like to add a left-handed hitting right or center fielder to bat fifth. Milton Bradley and Ken Griffey Jr. seem like long shots though. It's odd that the Rangers wouldn't want to move Bradley.

If that's really the case, maybe they would consider Fuku in center. But I have no idea about the article, so can someone say if it sounds legit or if Gammons is just rambling on with his own ideas?
