I opened up ESPN.com and it showed the score on the bottom as 104-100 which naturally garnered a WTF response.

haha phil jackson answered the first question of his press conference bitching about the referee work and saying he'd never seen anything like it. apparently he has forgotten the days of coaching the bulls.

LA is playing some awful 'ole defense tonight as well.

Yet, Boston is shooting a ton of free throws. Funny how that makes as much sense as when Duke shoots 40 threes a game, yet shoots more free throws than anyone else.

Don't worry, the Lakers will get all the calls in games 3 - 5.

I did love Radmonovic's 5 steps to dunk. It just looked so strange.

I should also say, just so it doesn't seem like I'm blaming the losses solely on the refs, that the Celtics have deserved to win both of these games. So far, they have been the better team. The Lakers could have won Game 1, but they shot something like 5-for-20 in the fourth quarter of Game 1 and missed some open shots that normally go in. Hell, that could have been a 15 to 20 point game had Boston not gone cold for a stretch as well. And despited the huge free throw disparity in Game 2, again the Lakers just weren't making shots (LA's ridiculous shooting in the fourth skewed the numbers).

Pau Gasol shot 8-for-12 in Game 2 with some combination of Perkins/Powe/Big Baby on him and I'm still trying to figure out why he's not getting the ball more. It would be one thing if Garnett was guarding Gasol but he's been on Odom for much of the time. I'd really like the ball thrown in to Gasol more since the guys who have been guarding him, shouldn't be able to handle him.

Kobe Bryant was too busy giving his team offensive rebounding opportunities.

Must Kobe always take ownership of everyone on the team? "My shooters, my bench"?

MJ did that too. He's the best player in the league and it is pretty much his team, so I don't have a problem with it.

That is what is weird about it for me. Everything that MJ did Kobe is trying to do. You are a great player, be yourself.

Donaghy says the NBA fixed the Lakers Kings series in 02. Although he is a felon, watching that series at the time I did get that feeling that it wasn't on the level.

Me too. Do you have a link on that?

Never mind, found it: http://www.sportsline.com/nba/story/10860844

Honestly, it was lame when MJ did it, too.

I won't say I believe the series was necessarily fixed, but it was pretty clear that someone (read: NBA, David Stern) wanted the Lakers to win that series. It was pathetic.

Of course, that's an easy series for Donaghy to pick out to get some attention. It was completely officiated one-sided and people like us are close to believing a man with very little credibility.

This is looking like it's going to be a pretty slow and boring game. The refs are calling ticky-tack fouls and although they're doing calling it both ways, it's incredibly annoying.

Oh and the Lakers have already shot 10 free throws today through just 10 minutes after shooting 10 total in Game 2. I'm still trying to figure out what is more ridiculous, this fact or Leon Powe shooting 8 over a span of 2:30 in Game 2.

How come no one talks about the Lakers committing only 7 more fouls than the Celtics in game 2 when they talk about the refs?

Cause I'm too happy to deal with arguing over refs.

Probably the same reason that when the Jazz only committed two more fouls in Game 6 but LA shot 13 more free throws, the Laker-haters complained. Or when LA took 16 more free throws in Game 1 - including 23 just by Kobe - but Utah committed 6 more fouls, the Laker-haters complained. It's not the fouls that matter, it's when you call them.

Nice try, though.

Nice try? I didn't watch the game - I just found it strange that the Lakers committed 7 more fouls but everyone is so up in arms.

And an equally ridiculous free throw discrepancy in today's game. The Lakers have taken 18 free throws and the Celtics just 2 with 2:43 to go in the first half.

Let's make that 20-2 at the same time.

It seemed like this was another one of your "LOL at the Laker fans bitching about foul calls because they always get the calls" sort of things.

And like I said, it's not how many fouls that the referees call, it's when they call them.

EDIT: My bad if I misinterpreted what you were saying or implying.
