Paul Pierce waits a decade to get into the finals and he blows his knee out in the third period of the first game.

If Pierce is out for the series, or even a few games, LA is winning this series. They're is no way Boston wins this series without him.

California born guy that goes to KU? double whammy imo

That makes sense. Completely forgot about him going to KU.

Meh. Not really surprising that the Lakers lost this game as I kind of expected it. I'll be really interested in seeing how Paul Pierce does in game 2 and how his knee holds up. He hit the pair of 3's after coming back but only hit one shot outside of that and I wonder if he was playing on adrenaline more than anything.

Both teams, but especially the Lakers, were pretty poor shooting-wise in the fourth quarter. It looked to be a fairly even game and I can't really see this series ending early, unless Pierce actually is seriously hurt and misses games. Outside of that, this thing is destined for 6 or 7 games.

For the first time since I was 6 I didn't watch any of an NBA Finals game.

I only watched the 4th quarter of Game 4 of last year's Finals. I watched most of this one and it was a pretty good game.

Pierce really overdid the knee injury though. It looked bad but did he really have to be carried off the court? Especially because he came back about 10 minutes after that happened. I'm sure his knee is going to swell up tomorrow and I doubt he'll practice, but the extra day off (no idea why there's two off days before the next game) should benefit him.

I'm not sure I buy Pierce embellishing the knee injury. Mainly, because what would the point of doing that be? You don't think about getting injured and then what you're going to do afterwards. He had to get carried off the court and then needed a wheelchair to get to the locker room. I just don't buy that an NBA player would allow himself to literally get carried off the court unless it was necessary. Pierce also said after the game that he heard a pop. I'm by no means saying that he is seriously hurt and he's either not going to play in Game 2 or not be able to help his team, just that I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

I love Phil's comment about a broken shorts drawstring takes longer to fix than Pierce's knee did to heal. Phil played with Willis Reed and I'll bet it bugged the heck out of him watching Pierce do this.

Knee injuries scare the bejesus out of me, I really doubt Pierce was hamming it up in his first NBA Finals game ever. I'm sure the dude knows pain, he nearly died from getting stabbed, no?

BITE YOUR TONGUE

Yeah, you're not bringing enough attention to his apparent gang ties.

I hope he shanks you.

Yeah, only guys in the past could play hurt.

Kobe scores 40 after being sick next game

KG steals the ball and kicks it to Allen for a layup

Kobe plays some center and makes a running sky hook to win it

The Cetlics win in 5 overtimes

Kobe steals the ball from KG, then makes the clincher on a 19 footer after he pushes off Pierce.

Might as well really stage em.

These refs are so ridiculously whistle-happy tonight it's not even funny. And a majority of the calls have gone against the Lakers. I mean, how the hell does Leon Powe go to the line eight times in 2 1/2 minutes? I didn't even know that was possible.

Of course it doesn't help that the Lakers are doing a ton of stupid crap on the court as well and aren't really even running the offense well. This is embarrassing right now.

Celtics free throws: 24

Lakers free throws: 2

This is mind boggling.

Regardless of whether or not the Lakers win this game, they had better take about 50 free throws in Game 3 with Kobe getting 20.

The NBA wants this series to go at least 6. I guarantee Game 3 will be shockingly lop-sided in LA's favor.

That's about the only consolation I have at this point - that I know the officiating should be ridiculously one-sided in LA's favor in Games 3 and 4. The only disappointing thing about that is it's probably going to be a pretty slow and boring game.
