The Rays continue to look for a right fielder after claiming Nathan Haynes on waivers from the Angels. They are among the teams interested in Matt Murton, who is off to a strong start for at Class AAA with the Cubs. The price for Murton, however, remains high.

Rosenthal's latest.

Not that I condone trading Murton (especially for cheap), but I wonder what is the asking price the Cubs telling clubs who are interested in Murton?

It should be very high. I'm not real big on the Cubs trying to trade Murton. He is cheap, and tremendous insurance in the event that either Soriano or Fukudome get injured.

Nice call.

Murton won't be going anywhere now.

The real question is whether he will get playing time.

I'm worried we're going to see DeRosa in LF with Fontenot at 2b so Lou can get another LH bat into the lineup.

I'm not so sure. They could always promote Kroeger as the extra OF and play Derosa in LF with Fontenot and Cedeno splitting time at 2nd depending on match ups.

Unlikely option, as Murton is on the 40 man roster and Kroeger isn't, so they would have to either bump someone off or put someone on the 60 day DL.

I'd say the odds of the Cubs calling up Murton are far greater (but then again, this is the Cubs, so you never know)

promoting kroeger would make no sense.

Personally, I'd ask for Longoria or Upton.

Tampa Bay wouldn't do that, unless the Cubs added a guy like Marshall or Gallagher along with Murton.

But if the Cubs are interested in a guy like Brignac, then it would make some sense.

I still couldn't see them taking those two for Longoria or Upton.

Neither would promoting Patterson, but the only reason they might not is because they already decided they hate him.

There's no one in our organization that could net us Longoria or Upton. If we ate Zambrano's contract, we could probably put a package together

How serious is Soriano's injury? Murt could get a callup.

Lou made it sound after the game that Sori is likely to miss "a while" so methinks Murton will be at Wrigley tomorrow

No, we're gonna do something stupid like call up Eric Patterson and anchor him to the end of the bench with Pie while Fontenot, DeRosa, and Reed Johnson play every day.

good call!

It wish I wasn't still surprised when this org. makes boneheaded moves.

If they traded Murton for someone that didn't need to be on the 40 man that would open a space for Kroeger. Promoting him makes sense if they feel that Soriano will be back soon and the call up will only be a placeholder anyway.

I expect to see Derosa in LF on a regular basis with Ward maybe getting a start or 2.

Maybe promoting Patterson is a sign that a trade is already in the works.

If I had to guess, we'll wind up with a Murton/Crisp trade so that we can get a lefty compliment to Reed Johnson in CF. It'll be the beginning June-ish and Pie will have about 70 PAs by that point.

For that to happen Crisp has to play well enough that Hendry still wants him, Pie has to play bad enough to be a legit bust and Murton has to continue to hit despite the symbollic football to the groin he just got from the org. Also everyone has to stay healthy.

I don't believe Hendry will give up on Pie that soon. I also don't believe he was ever that high on Crisp. He may be a switch hitter but does he "play th game the right way?"

He's a black CF who doesn't hit HRs. He's just what we need at the top of the order.

This organization has done everything it can to diminish Murton's trade value but I still think he should be moved while he still has value, however little it may be. Another year of languishing in the minors will put his value at slightly more than zero.

I know, how can this help Murton's trade value to not be promoted when the LF blocking your place goes on the DL and you don't get called up. Murton for Marlon Byrd? Not even close anymore.

Holy heck SSR, get away from the ledge and don't touch anything sharp today.

Not good when you consider that Murton's value is now lower than Marlon Byrd now.
