Since there is no "general baseball" discussion thread now, I guess this goes here.

What do y'all think are some of the top records in baseball. I'll just start out with a few that impress me a ton.

- Ruth's .690 career slugging avg

- Crawford's 309 career triples

- Gehrig's 23 grand slams

- Ryan's 7 no-no's

- Johnny Vander Meer's back to back no hitter's

- Walter Johnson's 110 career shutouts

- Cobb's .366 career batting avg

- Pedro's 291 ERA+

leaving out a few obvious ones apparently

To me the 7 No Hitters is up there. No one else can even really top 2. How many great pitchers never throw a single one. Add in that Ryan had 12 1-Hitters as well.

Then again I am from Texas so I am a little biased.

Well what other forum would you have it go into? Cubs discussions? Lesser teams? Rants? Transactions?

Now that there is no "baseball discussions" forum, we are kinda stuck when it comes to threads like these.

Well if we want to talk about ones that will never ever be broken then Cy Young's win record is the obvious answer (as well as his loss record)

People like to say the 56 game hit streak will never be broken - but all it would take is for someone to get ridiculously hot for a couple months... but because of the way baseball is set up today, Cy Young's record will always stand.

As far as top records in my mind:

- Ruths Slg

- Cobb's lifetime BA

- Rose's hits (Cobb's as well, only a hundred or so less in something like 3000 less AB's)

- Hack Wilson's RBI's

- Cy Young's Wins

- Cy Young's Losses

- Nolan Ryans no-hitters.

Billy Hamilton's 192 runs scored in 1894

Cy Young's 749 Complete Games

Rickey Henderson's 1,406 Stolen Bases

Hugh Nichol's 138 single season Stolen Bases

Cal Ripken's 2,632 consecutive games played

Someone mentioned Gehrigs 23 grand slams. Not sure if you knew it, but Manny Ramirez currently has 20 career grand slams. Unless he's running out of juice, he might have it in him to at least tie that record

192 runs is pretty impressive.

I see. I'm definitely not a fan of the new forum divisions either.

And what would make your highnesses happy? :write:

What? Josie Maran just isn't good enough for you anymore?

- Cy Young's Losses

Any discussion of unbreakable baseball records should begin and end with this one.

Our own 99 years without a title could be pretty unbreakable also.

The forums should be "Cubs Discussions" and "General Baseball Discussions"

Then I'd get complaints that talk about the cubs is part of general baseball discussions.
