Why do broadcasts always award "player of the game" and "play of the game" before the game is over? I have never understood this.

 

Because they can charge more for the sponsorship slot if they know viewers are still watching. Most people tune away right after the game.

 

In this case it wasn't so bad, but I have often seen them do it i like the 5th inning.

I remember a Cubs-Braves game once where they did this when the Braves were up 3 runs late in the game...and Andre Dawson hit a game-tying HR in the 9th and the game ended up going 14 innings I believe. :lol:
