Sorry to ressurect the topic again, but let me just say that this game today is textbook proof of why Kerry is not the longtern solution as closer. He often struggles against the first batter of the inning, he is way too inconsistent from day to day and is way too wild. Today he was all over the place, yet had luck and undisciplined Phillie hitters on his side(Bruntlett,Feliz, Ruiz). Think about it.....he could have lost this game in so many ways had the Phillie's not beat themselves.

Hmm, his 8th inning was pretty good.

Agreed. The first batter got on, but if Fonzi had a good read on the ball that could have been caught. Even if it wasn't caught, it was just a blooper that you can't do too much about.

The 9th was shaky, but you don't often ask your closer to go two innings.

I say it's still too early to conclude anything about Woodie and being closer, but I can't complain so far outside of his first outing.

For the people talking about Wood, and him not being a closer, let me ask you this....Who in this bullpen right now looks good? Howry has been bad, Marmol has been missing with alot of his pitches, and hasnt looked like Marmol of last year. Then there is Wood who if he doesnt go 1,2,3 every single outing, or if he walks a batter is going to be crucified, and called a "sham" closer. Seriously it doesnt matter who of these 3 are our closer, cause the other 2 will still be pitching when the game is tight, so does it really matter what inning Wood is used in? Howry and Marmol are more used to coming into the middle part of an inning when a pitcher needs to get loose quick, as a closer Wood has more time to warm up since his use is pretty much pre-determined every game. Just leave Wood alone.

I'm not sure what the deal is, but people are going to whine, bitch, and moan about everything.

It's April 13th, but I feel comfortable saying this will be our luckiest win of 2008. Glad to get out of there with a 4-2 road trip. Now it's time to kick Dusty's rear this week.

Don't get me wrong, man. I whine about him, but I like KW. He is my favorite player on the team and like most of you guys, I've been following the guy's career for 10 years.

You bring up a good point though. You are right...there is no one on the team that can step into that position. Howry is brutal and Marmol is inconsistent and young.

I don't know. In a perfect world I'd like it if Wood was starting again. Who knows if that is ever gonna happen again.

Remember when Marquis miraculously had an awesome Team W-L on days that he pitched, despite mediocre numbers? Well he's 2-0 this year...
