Because they can charge more for the sponsorship slot if they know viewers are still watching. Most people tune away right after the game.

Why do broadcasts always award "player of the game" and "play of the game" before the game is over? I have never understood this.

Why do broadcasts give player of the game to the winner all the time? Sometimes the player who did the best was on the losing side.

 

There was one Super Bowl MVP that was on the loser, for example, and I think it doesn't happen enough.
