That's going to be a red ass beatdown.

6 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 R, O ER, 13 strikeouts, the five guys who actually put the ball in play will be given bonuses.

lol Tenn against Kershaw, I wonder how many K's he racks up. Harvey is probably good for 4. Kershaw is a monster.

what an unfair matchup. kershaw should have to pitch from second base to give the tennessee lineup a fighting chance.

Wasn't it 2004 that saw a really bad hurricane season out in Daytona? I want to say that was the year Jackie Robinson Stadium got pretty badly damaged.

Matt Craig (leg injury) to the Tennessee DL. The Cubs signed player-coach infielder Jesse Garcia who will be with the Smokies.

Yeah, that was 2004.

Once he cont's to progress with that slider, he could increase the Ks vs. RH'ers and hopefully progress with the change will help against LH'ers. Even with the velo on his FB, sinkerballers pitch to contact, despite the pitch having sink, it's not in the league of someone like Webb or Carmona who can strike hitters out off the FB.

Given how bad the weather has been here, we might see Peoria get PPD again tonight.

I think we'll play tonight. Stopped raining about 1 and the field has drained. As long as it doesnt rain again we should get it started on time...

Nate, I hope you're right - especially since we don't play Beloit at home again before the half ends. Should have started the game at 2pm or so - I'm betting that things are going to get fired up again about 5pm and kill any thought of actually getting things in.

Keep your fingers crossed. There's one more band of severe storms headed toward Peoria's general direction in the next 2-3 hours, but with any luck, it'll miss.

AZ Phil at Fitch on Thursday

Rehabbing:

  • Billy Petrick threw 1.1 scoreless innings, surrendering 1 hit and getting 3 groundouts. He didn't seem to be throwing as hard as he has in the past.
  • Rafael Dolis got his first in-game action since TJS last season. Had poor command of his secondary stuff and threw too many pitches but he was hitting 95 mph.
  • Billy Muldowney is also working his way back from TJS and had some command problems.
  • Leon Johnson, Tony Richie, Brandon Guyer and Jeffrey Rea all got ABs.

The Kids:

  • Aussie Cody Hams looked good in his first in-game action in the U.S., displayed good control outside of a HBP and had a nice pickoff. Delivery is similar to Rich Hill's
  • 17-year old LHP Jeffry Antigua threw 3 scoreless and continues to rack up the groundballs.
  • Vitters 0/2. He did get the ball to the outfield once!
  • Hmm, apparently Elvis Lara is now in the LF. Meh, less interesting now.

I'm kind of annoyed that Andersen, Burke and Rundle don't all get to start on the same day for Peoria between the 3 outfield spots, DH and even first base.

Tennessee actually touched Kershaw up for two runs and seven hits in 5 innings. Harvey is 3 for 3 with THREE doubles and an RBI. Colvin is 0/3. And Samardzija is pitching a real good game: 6 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs, 2 K's/1 BB, 6 GO's/10 FO's. Typical Samardzija line with the K/BB and GO/FO ratios, but he's been good tonight.

Daytona down 2-1 in the 7th. Russell's final line: 5 IP, 5 hits, 1 run, 0 ER, 3 K's/1 BB. Daytona only has three hits.

Peoria trails 2-1 in the 5th.

Tennessee wins 2-0. Samardzija's final line: 7 IP, 4 hits, 0 ER's, 5 K's/1 BB, 6 GO's/10 FO's. Colvin finished 0/4 with 3 strikeouts.

Daytona loses 2-1 and only finishes with four hits.

Peoria trails 4-1 in the 8th. Siegfried: 5 IP, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 ER, 1 K/2 BB's. Rosa is 2/2 with a double and an RBI.

Just to count again, 5 of Samardzija's flyouts were actually popups to the infielders. He seems to have a knack at doing that.

If fact, looking through his innings, it was a very strange outing as far as how he got his outs.

1st: 2 groundouts, 1 strikeout

2nd: 2 groundouts, 1 popout

3rd: 1 groundout, 1 popout, 1 lineout

4th: 1 groundout, 2 popouts

5th: 1 popout, 2 fly outs

6th: 2 fly outs, 1 strikeout

7th: 3 strikeouts

Very, very strange. Had the sinker working early but very little strikeouts. Then moved to 4 out of 5 hitters popping up. Then 4 straight fly outs, then 4 straight strikeouts.

No matter how he's doing it, it's nice to see him continue the good run he had at Tennessee near the end of last year.
