They had a poll during the game today and it came out the Brewers were our biggest rival. I don't put much stock into it because we were playing the Brewers but it does raise an interesting question. Who is our biggest rival at the moment :-k .

To me it is always no matter what is going on 1. Cards 2. White Sox 3. Best team in division 4. Best team in NL.

And once again Brenly provided us with the great insight of "your biggest rival is whoever you are playing on that particular day." No no Bobby rival=arch nemesis=the team you hate most=the team you root against even when you are playing them no matter who they are playing.

This should really be in Rants because this was galactically stupid.

To me it goes

1. Cardinals

2. Whoever the Cubs are battling with for the division title/playoff spot (if applicable)

3. White Sox

Completely ridiculous to say Milwaukee is our greatest rival after 165 games of actual competition for a division title.

I hate the Brewers more than I hate the Cardinals.

But im from Wisconsin

I'm starting to dislike the Brewers, but I absolutely loathe the Cardinals with every fiber of my being.

Cards are number one but Ryan Braun, Jason Kendall and company are really making the Brewers a case to surpass them.

You got me on the Braun. He has surpassed Pujols as least favorite player.

i definitely hate corey hart more. mostly because he is so damn ugly and hits for power even though he weights 85 lbs. braun is fun to watch in the field no matter where he is. that glove will cost the brewers a couple of games this year.

The Cards are definitely number one in terms of history, but right now our biggest competition is going to be the Brewers, so I want them to lose as well.

I don't care what the White Sox do.

It would take a LOT for the Brewers to pass the White Sox, Mets and Cardinals in my book. As it stands right now, they just happen to be the competitor du jour, but there's no history or anything "real" to it.

I'm not sure I see the hate for Kendall. I believe he'll really help us win the division.

Cubs fans (Well, the people at Wrigley) also cheered when Kerry Wood plunked the first hitter he faced in a tie game in the ninth, who eventually scored in a one-run loss.

Cubs fans are not having a good season thus far. But sample size must be taken into account.

They probably meant this season, as our top competition, not historically. Then youd have the Cards, but nobody really sees them as a threat at this point. Besides, if the poll was taken at Wrigley, then you have to take into account that there were probably a large number of trixies, as well as others who were just there for the overpriced, watered down beer and such who didnt really know where they were and just put Brewers because that was the other team currently on the field. I wouldnt be surprised if some people answered Packers. Edited by Little Slide Rooter

I think that "Cubs biggest rival" poll was misleading, IMO.

IMO, it should be broken into two questions:

Who are the Cubs biggest competition for the divison? Brewers

And

Who arre the Cubs biggest rivals? Cards.

The Brewers WILL NEVER overtake the Cards, as the #1 rival for the Cubs, it won't happen. They are #2, simply out of annoyance.

Ask this question while we're playing the Cardinals and the Cardinals would have won the poll.

They need to ask this while we're playing the Padres or something to get an accurate result.

I hate the Cardinals, only because they are the historical rival. But I hate the Brewers more, only because they're the immediate threat to our success. If/When they start to suck like they did in years past, I could care less, but right now, I really really really really hate the Brewers. The Cardinals don't bother me as much right now because I know they're not going to be a huge threat, but I'll always hate them regardless

As a Brewerfan I'd say our #1 rival is the Cubs so you probably have Brewer fans voting for Brewers on that poll. Since the team has sucked since moving leagues, last year was the first real 'rivalry' year we had in the NL and the Cubs were the team that stole the division from us.

Before last year I'd probably say the Pirates were the Brewers #1 rival since we always play terribly in their park and we were fighting with them for 5th place a lot of years!
