This guy is a cancer on our offense, and he ain't no Ozzie Smith either. He sucked last year, but leads off and starts this year.

cedeno?

but that isn't even really needed at this juncture...the biggest problem i have is that he is batting lead-off

agree, bury riot in the 7-9 spots and im cool with him...but leadoff? not so much, but seriously, i'd love to hear a viable plan to get a better hitting SS...i just dont see it happening w/o giving up the farm

felipe lopez could be had without giving up the farm.

I am unhappy with Alf today, and he should never bat that high, IMO. However, history suggests he'll be fine.

Statistics are not as kind to Ryan.

The official thread? Didn't we have about 70 of those during the offseason?

We did but they were all called The Brian Roberts Thread.

he did just as good as Alf did today.

This matters how?

Granted, Soriano did look particularly horrible, especially in his second at bat that featured him swinging the bat 6 times at 6 balls. Very frustrating. At least with Theriot you know the exact outcome of his PA every time:

"Ryan Theriot flies out softly to RF"

Oh, come now. He grounds out plenty often.

exactly...the majority of his two-pitch at bats are those 10 foot bouncers that then roll softly into an infielders glove...

i mean did you see that shot he hit up the middle...that thing was juiced!!!

theriot's offseason workout has really made a difference

But he does it in a "gritty" manner which only David Eckstein could appreciate

Lopez is a very bad defensive SS though, he is ok at 2B. Can DeRosa play an effective SS? If not I'd think Lopez is a sidegrade and not an upgrade.

Bring on Ronny

My car has no wheels and won't move. I'm going to replace it with a car that is missing its engine.

Sweet.

He couldn't even make contact half the time today. I kept thinking to myself, if he's going to strikeout, then will anyone notice if we replace him with the bat boy?

It's just his body couldn't handle the grind of starting a 2nd full major league season. He'll be fine now that he's adjusted.
