Does anybody know who was involved in the the infamous 2nd trade that Hendry was supposedly working on? Everybody (Lou, Santo, and Kenney) all hinted that Hendry was working on two deals that would make everybody happy. Was the 2nd deal for Crisp? Was the 2nd deal for Burnett? Was it for Byrd?

The name that was most commonly being bandied about in the 2nd trade rumor was Chone Figgins. For the life of me, I can't figure out how that would have worked, though. I seem to recall the rumor mentioning Pie, but I just don't understand why Anaheim would want another outfielder. They already have more outfielders than they know what to do with. Maybe it would have been some sort of 3 way deal that sent Pie somewhere else, Figgins to the Cubs and Anaheim getting the guy they are looking at.

Yeah, I had heard the Figgins rumor. And maybe it was a fan started rumor, but I also heard of AJ Burnett. MAYBE Joe Nathan (long shot). But those are the only names I heard connected to a possible 2nd Cubs trade.

When the "people in the know" said he was working on two deals that would make people happy, I certainly don't think names like Byrd or Crisp would cause people to pre-order WS tickets. To make people happy, I would think it would have to be Figgins or Burnett and possibly Nathan in addition to the Roberts deal.

I think that they said that because they are recognizable name players to the average fan.

All this talk of 2 trades occured around the time tickets went on sale and the CBOE tickets went up for auction. It's important to create a feeling that this could be the year in order to sell those tickets at the highest possible price.

Rosenthal said in his latest article that the Cubs wouldn't trade for both Roberts and Crisp, because it would be too much money (even with Marquis in a deal). That leaves me with a tough time finding out who the other player is if it isn't Crisp (maybe Byrd I guess).

Read this on OH:

Bruce Levine was just on ESPN 1000 and he said the cubs have been talking with the angels over the past several days, but he said he didn't think anything was really happening there.

It's gotta be Willits. SH player who can fill in at a bunch of positions, including CF, and is rumored to be sent down to the minors by the Angels.

In fact, a Marquis for Willits trade seems so logical, considering the Angels pitching woes (Lackey and Escobar both injured). Angels fans would probably want a prospect thrown in as well.

I have the Weurtz feeling about this trade.
