Duncan was wrong! That was a bad play.

I never read too many Yankee fans going crazy over Cervelli. He was run over while blocking the plate from a guy trying to make the Rays. I am not sure the play had to happen in the 9th inning of a meaningless ST game, But if they want to play hard the Yanks should play hard as well. Duncan went to far though.

I'm sure he got the wink from Girardi.

Whatever, It is a lose-lose in my opinion. They go back at the Devil Rays and they are the [expletive] Yankees to all the haters. If they let the play go then they are wusses. Whatever.

IMHO, Girardi is sending a message that is a long time coming. It is time the Yankees started to play with passion again.

They already beaned the top prospect in baseball, it could have stopped there. Not to mention it was still a perfectly legal play that started the whole mess.

is there a prize given to posters for derailing threads with petty personal squabbles? it certainly would explain a lot.

Well this thread wouldn't warrant it considering the person who started the thread brought it up.

What? I didn't say anything about OMC.

duncan should be suspended for several regular season games; girardi should be fined too. if nothing else, duncan should be suspended for being stupid enough to say this:

I'm pretty sure the spikes weren't that high. They were pretty much going straight at the glove," Duncan said. "I've done it before. Never had a reaction like that.

Duncan should be suspended and fined. I don't agree with Girardi getting a fine.

Girardi should be fined as I would assume hes the one who ordered the beaning, seeing how he was the one whining and bitching about his catcher getting ran over in the previous game. IMHO, Duncan deserves to be suspended, and not just a 1 or 2 gamer. What he did was completely wrong, and had the intent of hurting somebody.

The running over the catcher blocking the plate a couple of days ago.

No, I think he was asking you if they hit Longoria in the head, because you referred to it as a "beaning."

I'd like to know where he was hit, too, for what it's worth.

The pitch barley grazed his chest / shoulder area. It was far from a Beaning! I have seen it 5 times and the angle is lousy so you don't really know if it was even intentional. Phillips was having control issues and had given up 2 runs already. The pitch would have been ball 4 anyway.

How are you going to give an award for derailing a thread to someone who was actually discussing the thread's original post? Unless you work for Rawlings, that doesn't make sense.

I believe Cro Magnon was referring to the potshot Geech took at OMC. And oddly enough, this may be the only post in NSBB history that was not immediately derailed.

And I believe wolf is saying that post was directly related to the thread topic, and therefore in no way shape or form could be construed as derailing the thread.

you can't really be this dense. making completely unprompted inferences of another posters racism wouldn't constitute an attempt to derail the thread? has it been your experience that people usually have no issues with these kinds of allegations?

Pretty sure he was likening the spiking to Ty Cobb, who was notorious for spiking other players. And stabbing a black man over an argument.

EDIT: Of course, I assume OMC doesn't like Cobb because of those actions, rather in spite of those actions, he is able to separate the baseball ability from the non-baseball behavior, and admires the baseball ability.

Well back on topic:

http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2008/03/13/girardi-talks-it-over-with-duncan/

Joe Girardi said yesterday that if he saw a replay that showed what Shelley Duncan did was dirty, he would have a meeting with him.

Girardi and Duncan met this morning.

Duncan said later he didn’t want to talk about the meeting. Let’s see, 2 + 2 …

“We talked,” Duncan said. “Whenever you have private conversations with people you like to keep it between them.”

Duncan said he saw the replay. “When you do something, it never looks the same as what you thought you did,” he said. “So it didn’t look the same as what I thought I did.”

Asked whether he would do the same thing again, Duncan paused. “A lot of time situations don’t repeat themselves. … When you have a walk with the manager he’s going to give you things to learn from that’s right or wrong, whatever his viewpoint is. That’s what we talked about.”

So there you have it. The only question now is what sort of punishment MLB levies against the participants. Duncan and Jonny Gomes will likely be suspended.

He was comparing the player to Ty Cobb.

Shelley Duncan spikes Akinori Iwamuri. He's stabbing a black man away from being OMC's new hero.

Try and be a little more classless next time.
