I wouldn't go to a Cub game in Chicago if it isn't at Wrigley. Part of driving all the way out there is the ambiance of Wrigley and if I'm going to commit going, I want to see the game there. Now, if the Cubs move to another stadium for good that's different.

Hasn't this been the knock on Cubs fandom over the past years, that their only support the team because they play in Wrigley. I love Wrigley as much as anyone, but I would definetly be at a bunch of games if they were playing in the cell. I would miss Wrigley for a summer for sure, but it would be a cool experience going to home games at the cell and frankly, would become a large part of Cubs history.

There's a huge difference between supporting a team when you are local though and driving 10+ hours like Cuse would have to do. I don't blame him for wanting to wait a year to take that type of trip. If he can't see them in Wrigley, it would probably make more sense for Cuse to drive to an East Coast stadium to see them then to come all the way to Chicago just to watch them in an unfamiliar stadium.

I don't live anywhere near there and if I commit to going to Chicago, I want to see Wrigley as well. I'd rather watch the Cubs at Shea/Wash or Philly and save the money.

you guys are missing the key ingredient here, which is the fact that ticket prices will probably rise another 25-40% across the board after the renovations are done

You're kidding, right?

I'm really only half kidding.

I really hate the Cell and hope they don't decide to play there. Yes crime is bad there, and yes, its relatively safe IF you're there in a group. HOWEVER the park and its neighborhood are just lame and awful. Its surrounded by acres of parking lots!!!

I wish they could play in Milwaukee instead. MUCH better neighborhood and better ballpark too!!

I like the Cubs and all, but it'll get old watching them play some crappy team in a crappy ballpark. No thanks!

i've gone there, by myself, at night, on the El, and have never had issues. there are thousands of people going to and from the park at game times...you're unlikely to be wandering dark alleys at night.

also, while not Wrigley by a long shot, The Cell isn't a horrible place to see a game.

I'd go.

Milwaukee's not an option, come on. They already hate us for taking over their park when we play the Brewers. Plus it involves more travel.

Cub fans will support their team, no matter what. 100 years of banging our heads against a brick wall, and a 1 year hiatus from Wrigley is going to stop us? Hell no.

Ah, I get it....100 years of banging our heads against a brick wall!

While closing down Wrigley down for a year will suck, going to U.S Cellular is not the end of the world. For those of you who don't think Reinsdorf would allow this, are you insane. True he's a Sox fan but he's a business man first. Do you think he would pass on any lease money from the Cubs not to mention all of the concession money. As an out of state Cubs fan this would not be wonderful but remember you are still in Chicago. One of the greatest cities in the WORLD, if not the greatest. As far as safety goes. 10 of thousands White Sox's fans go there every game yet you really never hear anything bad happening. Actually from what I hear the area around the park really isn't that bad.

We all need to remember someday the Cubs will need to address the age of Wrigley. Would you rather play in Shamburgh or Clark on Addison going forward.

well.....I think all of us are a little insane, but that's neither here nor there

Has anyone mentioned that the crime statistics are actually worse for the area surrounding Wrigley Field than the area surrounding US Cellular Field?

I was going to say that but I'm sure someone who's misinformed would have blasted me for it.

I'm sure we have all heard the arguement from Sox fans that 75% of the fans a Cubs games are only there to hang out at Wrigley. Were this situation to happen it would be very interesting to see just how the Cubs draw at the Cell.

We'd sell that obnoxious stadium out, just like we do in Milwaukee, Arizona, Atlanta, etc.....Oh yeah, and we wouldn't need a Pepsi half off--bring your dog to the park in an Elvis costume either!

I'm for a renovation of Wrigley as long as it uploads the classic look and feel of the park.

You make it sound like it is Fallujah. "Relatively" safe if you're in a group? Are you serious? I don't think you've ever been there. It's not rosy and lovely but it's seriously not a bad place to watch a game. I've been to Wrigley, and I've been to USCF (obviously more often) and they are both great places to watch baseball -- for different reasons, obviously.

Miller Park in Milwaukee has no neighborhood. NONE. it's in the middle of nowhere with just a parking lot, so i have no idea what that dude is talking about.

Also, The Cell is a better ballpark than Miller. Miller is an abomination

Yeah there is a reason tailgating is so big before a brewers game. It's because it's the only choice.

Miller is quite possibly the most boring bandbox in MLB with awful sight lines.

Miller Park has enough parking spots if 1.25 of the fans drive together. It's ridiculous, but the soil around the stadium is extremely contaminated. The abundance of parking lots are there to have something while the soil goes through stabilization periods to be build able again.

To the South, there is a large commercial district. Nothing worth seeing. The Brewery is too far to the North to be called part of the neighborhood. Potawatomi is too far to the East as well. The only decent place around there is Sobelman's and that's still a good walk.

Not too mention the non-brick exterior already has been rusted over, looks like garbage. The roof is jimmy-rigged together. And the Brewers play there.

don't get me started on the parking. i went up there and was shocked (shocked i tells ya!) that they lot was "full". then there were cryptic signs to some off site lot that you might be able to find if you've lived in milwaukee your whole life

So out of curiosity, if the Cubs decided to build a new ballpark in Schaumburg and tear down Wrigley, would you never come to Chicago to support the Cubs again?
