I'd rather the Cubs just built a new stadium than go through all this Wrigley rebuilding...but I know I'm in the minority.

I'm with you. I wish they could just build a new stadium on the land where Cabrini is in the process of being torn down. Bring the beachers, bricks, scoreboard and the red sign, plant some ivy and build a stadium that can seat at least 50,000 and has parking around it. To hell with Wrigleyville. It's a bunch of obnoxious frat bars and arrogant, jerkfaced residents who act like living near the Cubs is a burden.

i'm torn, but a part of me would secretly enjoy seeing the property value of all those brownstones drop like a stone when Wrigley is gone

And you think the way to solve that is to move to Cabrini?

Forget for a moment that what you propose is impossible, but if you move the Cubs to another neighborhood in Chicago, those same bars are going to follow, and the neighbors are going to have the same complaints.

Seeing as the entire Cabrini area is in the middle of the successful process of generally trying to recover the neighborhood, you're not going to have the scores of "legacy" property and homeowners that are such a pain for the Cubs to deal with. I know bars and such would follow the stadium, which is why I said "to hell with Wrigleyville." It's nothing special in that regard.

I'm also biased since I live like a mile away and my property value would go through the roof...though it is a prime spot tha would keep them in the city and finally give them the bigger and better stadium they deserve. More seats, more tickets, more money...ideally, even more money for the team.

Not gonna lie, I didn't even realize Cabrini "wasn't ghetto" anymore. Thats all I associated it with. Thats good to hear.

I'm not torn to Wrigleyville specifically, but I have to say that the view from the outfield is going to be important. I want homes or something, not empty lots or a humungous buildings. If they can accomplish that "neighborhood feel" somewhere else, I'm not tied to what is specifically Wrigleyville now.

Just build it there with the bleachers up against the skyline. It would look amazing.

they've torn all the public housing down and have built stores and condos. You can now safely walk from Wrigley Field to downtown if you want (without having to stick to Lake Shore Drive).

Something about Wrigley bleachers and skyscrapers skyline doesn't seem to sit right with me. I'd have to see it to be sure though. If its apartments and condos, depending on the look of them (are they really tall, made of brick/stone or steel) I could totally go for it.

If they built it on the Cabrini location with the bleachers backed up against the skyline, there wouldn't really be anything visible or in the way.

quick and dirty (sorry for the black&white, but it's tough to find a skyline photo from the vantage point of that neighborhood)

Hmmm well I'm not that familiar with the area. I think I know what you mean though. I mean, obviously there will be skyscrapers right there in the distance and be visible, but in the close vicinity, the first couple blocks, you don't want Wrigley to be hidden inbetween high rises, you know what I mean?

Well yeah, except of course it wouldn't be "Wrigley"...it'd be a newer stadium, but for point of reference it works. Chicago's skline as a background is fantastic.

I understand why people don't want the Cubs to move...it would have a massive effect on the local area if the Cubs moved, and much of the fan base would be disillusioned, but Wrigley would still be there, and could be used for exhibition games, or other events so as far as the historical nature of things, it would still be present.

I know there's a whole freaking lot of detail that I'm not considering here, but my point is that I'm not so attached to Wrigley that I would be opposed to this idea were it to be feasible.

All that said, I don't see it happening.

Don't worry, I can only think of two that would be a bit like that, off towards the north. What Derwood posted would be pretty close to wha you would see.

Yea, alright, after seeing that, I could be game for it. Looking at a map of the area, I'm guessing you're thinking somewhere by Division? Oh and you need at least one moderately sized rooftop right across the street in case anyone wants to challenge Glen Allen Hill's imfamous hit.

The Cubs and Wrigley are inextricably tied. If you want to take that away from them, you might as well just go root for the Twins.

Ok.

You do that.

I couldn't care less where they play. Wrigley and Wrigleyville makes going to the games a bit more fun, but that's where it ends.
