I'm really only half kidding. I really hate the Cell and hope they don't decide to play there. Yes crime is bad there, and yes, its relatively safe IF you're there in a group. HOWEVER the park and its neighborhood are just lame and awful. Its surrounded by acres of parking lots!!! I wish they could play in Milwaukee instead. MUCH better neighborhood and better ballpark too!! I like the Cubs and all, but it'll get old watching them play some crappy team in a crappy ballpark. No thanks! -

I certainly wouldn't go, that place is just unsafe. Its in the ghetto. I went there once for an interleague game and just about got knifed in the parking lot before the game. -
Evidently some of the OF grass is being removed; anyone know why? I went there this morning and they had a Bobcat hauling big sections of sod out and creating a big pile right there by the Harry Carey statue. Some old guy took a number of pieces and loaded them into his van. Not sure who he was, I joked "Looks like you'll need a bigger van!" He just laughed and said yeah. Since he seemed harmless, I waited until the Bobcat guy was away and I grabbed a 2' x 2' piece of sod and loaded in into my trunk and left. Since Tuesday they have put up green tarps in the temporary fencing, making it much harder to see the progress. But the openings where the trucks go in and out seem to be kept closed unless there's a truck there, so it would be hard to get any bricks since I'm sure they button up everything tight at quitting time.

Its all surrounded by temporary fencing they installed Monday. The sections just pull apart by lifting off the bases; maybe use wire cutters incase they used tie-wire to attach the sections a little better. On the LF side, there were guys removing bleachers and tossing them into two dumpsters they had set up there on the street. Another truck was waiting there to deliver another dumpster when I went past. You can bet that every scrap of bleacher planks, and each and every brick, will be offered for sale to the fans. Its all about the money - you don't think they're going to just pitch all that stuff? Not a chance.
