Also, looking at that bench - we really need to just trade Murton. I love the guy and I've been advocating him for starter for quite some time now - but there's really no place for him. He's not going to take any time away from Soriano in left, He's not going to take any time away from Fukudome, and he can't play center. So unless for some ungodly reason Lou moves Sori to 2nd then he has no place on this team.

It depends on the value. For example, if Murton's value is less than Marlon Byrd's to every team, then I'd rather keep him. If Baltimore or San Diego are willing to put a higher price tag on him (the two teams most rumored to be interested) then I'd deal him.

I think the Cubs want to see who their other OF is going to be before dealing Murton. They just can't deal him for a prospect right now without another trade because that would leave the bench too thin.

Murton is a sucky bench player anyway. Plus, the way I see it (assuming we carry 12 pitchers like usual) our bench could live without him.

I think our bench as of now would be Ward, Fontenot, Cedeno, Blanco, Murton.

Replace Murton with Fuld - problem solved. Then you have two players (Ward, Fuld) who can play OF.

But I do understand his value is probably minimal right now.

Personally, unless there is a trade, I prefer replacing Fontenot with Patterson, and giving the Cubs a decent speed guy off the bench. I don't particularly like Fontenot, I don't think he's a MLB player, and I would release him.

How is Murton a sucky bench player?

I don't understand the general feeling of concern that everyone has with Felix. He's been successful at every level he has played with, and I believe he's helped his team also reach the playoffs each year. Oh yeah, and he's only 23 years old. Most prospects don't even make the majors before this time, let alone deliver. Let's give Pie some time...he's be fine.

According to Steve Stone, who apparantly saw Fuld quite a bit in the AFL, he does everything better than Pie except run (and that's nearly a direct quote). Just his opinion, of course, but I wonder if there's that great a difference between the two.

I still think Pie will be a better player. He just needs the time to develop. He's young and I really hope the Cubs don't give up on him.

There's most definitely a huge difference between the two. Pie does everything better, and has proven it in his MiLB performance.

Stone must be drinking quite a bit nowdays. It's a shame.

For my first post...I will make a prediction...

Fuld will win the starting CF job out of spring training....and in fact, he will "get the job" with more than a week left in spring training, but the Cubs will drag out the competition till the end, just to protect their "prized" prospect Pie. (say that 10 times fast).

From what I've seen, Pie is all hype and Fuld is a gamer...IMO.

Welcome aboard.

How much of him have you actually seen to decide he's all hype?

Just a few of series' when he came through the Southern League as well as the big league games that were on the TV...I mean, if Dempster can make predictions about the World Series, then I can atleast make a prediction about the CF job!!

Fuld "gamed" his way to a .760 OPS in 335 AB at AA last year at 24 years old.

I don't want this guy on the 25 man roster.

Yet another pebble onto the pile of reasons why he should never, ever, ever be a GM or P.P. guy. He's horrible.

So you've basically seen Fuld's catch and nothing else?

What if Fuld out performs Pie in Spring Training? Stranger things have probably happened.

In the end, I just want the best guy out in CF and think Piniella will see that that happens.

That's not that incredibly unlikely. It also wouldn't mean that he (Fuld) should get the job if that's the case.

I couldn't care less if Fuld has a .900 OPS in spring and Pie has a .700 OPS.

Apparently, you haven't seen much!

Welcome to the board, though.

It may be Lou trying to get Pies attention and it could also be him wanting a consistent type player in CF. Pie has more potential but Fuld has been pretty consistant and he seems like a guy you could throw out there and he won't hurt you. Granted, he has no power but he does a lot of things pretty well other than that. He has always had a decent OBP and if Lou is looking at someone who can be fundamentally sound it would be Fuld. He's a very good OF defensively from what I've read and runs the bases well. From what I've read of Pie he makes mistakes running the bases and that seems to tick Lou off, ie Cedeno.

What have you seen of Pie? I watched him with the ICubs and was very impressed.
