So does anyone have any NFC NORTH "Pre camp" season predictions on how the standings will be in the black and blue this year?

I'm going to go with the consensus pick

Vikings

Packers

Bears

Lions

Not sure if the Packers grab a WC spot yet...but I'm leaning towards no. That's my irrational Packer hate speaking though probably.

Name 5 teams in the NFC that are better than the Packers. You can't do it.

name five teams that people thought would be worse than packers going into last year. You can't do it.

Get my point?

Exactly. Honestly as I mentioned before, I am letting my irrational hate of the Packers change my opinion. But to be honest, no one can really predict how the Packers do this year. They have a solid defense, but so did the Bears last year and even this year. If you would have told me the Bears would have finished under .500 last year I would have laughed in your face. The key is, they are replacing a stellar QB with an unproven one. Not many people can argue that the QB position is the most important in football, heck maybe even sports. As a Bears fan, I know how hard it is to find a good QB. So what if Rogers looked good for 3 quarters against Dallas last year. Rex Grossman owned the NFL for all of September of 06 and look where that got him.

The Superbowl? ohh wait sorry I get you point.

I actually hate Grossman (purdue fan and non/somewhat anti Bear fan)

Bradley is the Mark Prior of the Chicago Bears.

Except Bradley never did anything noteworthy as a pro was never all that highly thought of and never had a chance of becoming an all-time great. He's more like Angel Guzman.

Well ok I could go with Angel Guzman except he was pretty well thought of, and was thought to have a chance at being great.

I'm sorry, but I don't think Jackson is going to be good enough in Minnesota. The defense will be great and Peterson is a special player, but I don't see the Minnesota offense being anything other than one dimensional, which is a cause for concern in the NFL. Berrien was a good acquisition, but he is the only good receiver on the team. He will put up 80 catches and somewhere around 1,000 yards. But where are the other threats in the passing game? The Vikings don't have a top of the line tight end, the other wide outs besides Berrien are nothing special. Peterson only caught 19 balls last year so asking him to be a Marshall Faulk like weapon is pretty much out of the question. How is a young QB supposed to succeed with only one legitamate NFL weapon to throw to? If you can prevent Peterson from hitting the HR against you then stopping Minnesota's offense shouldn't be that hard.

I saw nothing last year that made me a believer in Tavaris Jackson, and I don't think the Vikings (much like the Packers) have an adequate backup plan. Guss Ferrote, Brooks Bollinger, and John David Booty?

I think the division comes down to QB play, and whoever out of the Bears, Packers, and Vikings gets the best can walk away from this division. If Brett ends up back in GB the Packers run away with the division. Rodgers has injury concerns, and GB currently doesn't have an experienced backup. However, GB in my opinion has the best weapons around their inexperienced QB. The Bears are a wild card as they have proven the ability to win games with defense, field postion, and special teams in the past, but finding an effective starter is paramount to their success.

Keep in mind I was born in Green Bay so I could be looking at this through Green tinted glasses. My prediction is

Packers 9-7

Vikings 9-7

Bears 8-8

Lions 6-10

Overall I see the Norris being very Mediocre this year, with the tie break coming down to divisional record.

Still haven't signed Williams, right? After he was drafted he said we could count on him not holding out at all. I guess we'll see. Do we still have to wait to see how his salary is gonna slot?

Good to hear on Urlacher, although I was never really that worried about that situation because he's under contract. Nice to have it resolved, anyway.

To be fair, only 4 first rounders have signed, and the article in the Trib this morning said that they are close with Williams...of course the same article was pessimistic about the Urlacher deal being close.

I'm guessing there is a strong chance Bradley doesn't make this roster if he can't get on the field in a timely manner. The WRs coach is raving about Lloyd and Davis so far, and I believe those 2 were the biggest competition for PT for Bradley. Booker and Hester are locks. Bennett was a high 3rd round pick, so he's probably not in too much danger even of being put on the practice squad. If Lloyd and Davis are that good, that put Bradley in competition with Mike Hass for the last WR spot. Might as well continue the trend started in the offseason and cutting ties with disappointing players.

The CB situation is pretty tight too, but in more of a good way than the WRs. Obviously, the starters are great. But McBride was decent last year. Graham has good size at 6'1" and has been impressing. Then you have the rookie Bowman and Ricky Manning Jr. My guess is RMJr. gets the boot.

Bears agree to terms with Urlacher

what a selfless act it is to sacrifice his own dream of winning a superbowl for a virtual feather in his cap.

i really hope this new contract assures his continued cooperation with the media and openness with the fans who have helped make him the face of the bears franchise. he's such a thoughtful person, kudos to you, brian, you steaming pile of excrement. i hope age doesn't begin to restrict your amazing ability to shed blocks.

I think Dallas and the Giants will be better. The division should come down to the Packers and the Vikings, but who knows? I think those are the four best teams in the conference, pretty easily.

As we all know though, preseason predictions really don't mean a whole lot.

How does a new contract for Brian Urlacher makes us a better team?

one slightly less petulant millionaire on the roster?

Whose left to worry about contracts for the time being. Just Hester right?

And 3 or 4 as yet undetermined good offensive players who would 1) be required to make this team a contender, 2) would cost plenty of money to sign and/or keep, and 3) couldn't remotely be afforded as long as we continue to pump all our money into defense.

But other than that yea I guess we're all set.

Yeah, it's puzzling because it doesn't appear to me that he's actually been given a chance to fail on the field. He must either be the worst practice player of all time, or just a complete jerk. Moose and his old wise man act grew tiring very early, and he was given repeated chances after several no show games and lackluster efforts. But I guess that's part of the contract. Anyway, I'd have to list Bradley as a favorite to get cut as of now, going by all the rhetoric coming out of Halas Hall regarding the other guys.
