I know you didn't think they were the best team last year. I seemed to recall you having them at the top of your Meph rankings one week, can't remember if it was when they had 2 or 3 losses.

I never had them number one. I've maintained that LSU was better than them all season long, as well as Oklahoma. They return everybody and their mother. There's no reason they shouldn't beat top 2 or 3. The UGA/UF game next season will likely feature the #1 and #2 teams in the country when it goes down.

I searched, only found you/Sagarin having them at #2 when they had 3 losses. Which was/is laughable. Then they lost to Michigan. Which was awesome.

USC will lose a lot of D too, with probably 5 starters being drafted in the first 2 rounds in April. I think they will probably NOT win the NC again this year, despite having the best talent. Who wins that QB job may be the most interesting battle of the offseason.

My national championship game is Georgia over Ohio St, as the SEC takes turns beating on OSU.

And 4 of those 5 defensive starters USC loses are probably 4 of their 5 best defenders this year (LBs Ray Malauga [JR who hasn't declared yet] and Keith Rivers, DT Sedrick Ellis, DE Lawrence Jackson).

Of course they probably can plug in Everson Griffin at DE and any of their multiple 5-star LBs and not miss a beat.

They always lose a bunch of kids don't they? They just reload with more.

Florida finished at #13.

Biggest jumps from outside the top ten to preseason top five the next year in the AP poll the last few seasons

2006: #14 - #4 Auburn

2005: #13 - #3 Tennessee

2005: #14 - #4 Michigan

2005: #16 - #5 LSU

2004: #11 - #5 Florida State

There's precedent for Florida to move into the top five and they certain will (and should) given the lack of graduation this year for them.

Yeah, but they usually have a lull on D when they lost that much talent (see 2006 season). Of course, they bring back all their offense except Booty, Baker, and the TE. So, they'll probably be better offensively.

Next year will be a huge season for KU. We're returning a ton of players, but our 2 AA are leaving. (Talib and Collins). I honestly think Collins is the bigger loss, as the rest of our secondary played well. Collins was our OL anchor.

I'm hoping for 10-2 + a bowl victory, with the season playing out as follows. Obviously, we could lose more than a couple of those I have as wins (@USF, vs Texas), but I think we're capable of winning those. I'm basically writing off OU and Mizzou as losses unless Daniel goes pro.

they will lose 4 games

Very possibly. Texas and USF are the likely candidates if that happens. But you're the one who had them ranked 17th when they were 11-1 and getting beaten by VTech, so I don't know if you're an authority on KU football.

With Navy, Northeastern, @Western Kentucky and @IU out of conference and all 11 offensive starters returning, Ball State could full well win 10 games next year. The only games they should lose are IU (although we have more of a chance now that Hardy is going pro) and Central Michigan (we're pretty much incapable of beating Dan LeFevour). I figure 9-3 with one other loss that they shouldn't have had, and probably another International Bowl berth unless CMU is bad enough that we can squeak into the MAC title game.

They'll lose to OU, Mizzou, Texas and one of {USF, Tech, KSU, Nebraska}

They will win three of four from the last set though.

I really think we can beat Texas, thought that doesn't mean we will. We won't lose to KSU. That program is in a massive tailspin. Tech and Neb are definite possibilities. It'll be interesting to see if all that Neb talent can start performing under a better coach.

Honestly, though, 8-4 + Bowl win would be an acceptable result next year. It's good enough that it would solidify us as a legit Big XII program in a lot of recruits' eyes. At this point, that's what I want. We need to build to the point where we're a true threat to win the conference as opposed to a good team that caught all the breaks.

Next year could be the year Tech challenges OU for the South rather than Texas. I keep waiting for them to have one very good season. I think it is a long shot but if they get Julio Jones, him along side Crabtree will be the best WR duo in the nation. With Crabtree taking home all the WR awards as a freshman I think that helps their chances with Jones. Still when was the last time Tech nailed a recruit that big?

Rich Rod was on Jim Rome today, and basically said he thinks Arrington and Manningham are going to enter the NFL draft, and that Mallet is probably going to transfer to another school. That's a huge hit for Michigan. So basically, we're losing our starting QB for next year, our 2 top WR's, and we need to replace our top RB and our all-american left tackle. Michigan could lose quite a few games next season. I'm really hoping Pryor decides to come to Michigan. He could honestly start as a freshman.

He needs Pryor very badly, almost regardless of Mallett. Pryor would enable everything Rodriquez wants to do. I would not be suprised if they lost both WR's. I think they are both going to be very solid Pro's.

Mizzou hopefully will win 10 games again this year. Really no reason that they shouldn't. Unfortunately it'll be my first year after graduation, so I won't get to go to 10 games again next year. I really wanted to go to Austin for the Texas game. Oh well.

Gah, this sucks, eight months until college football starts again.

IU's probably done with bowl games for another 14 years. Lose our best 2 players (Hardy, Porter), but do bring back Kellen Lewis and a decent crop of small speed WRs. DBs will be overhauled. But front 7 should be mostly in tact, including probable all conf. Greg Middleton.

UCLA loses 6 starters on D (both safeties, one corner, the middle linebacker, a DT and DE) and 5 on offense (3 OL, WR Brandon Breazell and RB Chris Markey). No wonder this was supposed to be our year (thanks, Dorrell).

There are a lot of talented but talented but inexperienced guys on defense and a top 10 recruiting class coming in. Despite a senior QB (Cowan or Olson) and a senior starting RB (Kahlil Bell who split time and outperformed Markey in 07), 2008 is going to be a rebuilding year for UCLA.

At least I'll have a lot of fun watching DT Brian Price the next two seasons before he becomes a top 15 pick.

Dunno where to put this, but Munir Prince, former backup RB and now CB for Notre Dame, is transferring to Mizzou. I can't speak to his CBing skills because he never saw the field at that position, but he's fast as hell and I'm sure he'll help the Tigers somewhere. He was a pretty good recruit coming out of HS, just got lost in the shuffle.

It was announced today that all 5 juniors who filed papers for the draft (Daniel, Coffman, Moore, Sulak, and Hood) are returning for their senior season. Still no word if Temple will get the medical redshirt from his freshman year that he is seeking, but I would be shocked if he did.

Mizzou should have no problem winning 10+ games again next year. I think they'll realistically go 11-1. Their toughest games are vs. ILL (in STL), @ UT, @ Nebraska, and vs. Kansas (in KC). I think we'll beat Illinois, Nebraska, and Kansas for sure, and I think we could beat UT, but it'll be tough in Austin.

Today was a good day for Mizzou football though. Finished #5 in Coaches and #4 in AP (our highest finish ever), the 5 aforementioned juniors announced they are coming back for next season, and Dan Hoch (4-star), the #20 ranked OL in the nation and the top-ranked player in Iowa decommitted from Nebraska and committed to Missouri, while WR Wes Kemp (3-star, the #40 ranked WR and #5 ranked player in Missouri decommitted from Wisconsin and committed to Mizzou, while former ND running back Munir Prince (as Andy said) is transferring here.

Rich Rod confirmed in an audio interview on Rivals that Manningham and Arrington both are entering the NFL draft, and that Mallett won't be playing for Michigan next year, meaning he's transferring somewhere. I'm not that upset about Mallett because he didn't seem to fit in with other players and has some serious accuracy issues, but I was hoping Manningham and Arrington were going to stick around for their senior seasons. Michigan always has quality recievers, and there is depth at the position, but now we basically have no experience at the QB, RB, and WR positions. Could be an interesting and quite bad season next year.

that's what they said about Ohio State last off season
