If Prior were to sign a 1 year deal with a team option for a second year would anyone here be upset?

No because it just proves that Prior did not want to be a Cubs any more. If anything I hope he does so I don't have to be angry with Jim Hendry for not tendering him.

yes. thats kind of what I would have liked the Cubs to do with him

Thats what the Cubs would have liked too

really? I guess I missed that. I understood that line of reasoning to be a prevailing thought on the board, but not nec Hendry's intentions.

The Cubs offered him a 1 year deal with a team option. Prior turned it down.

5 years from now. . . . .

Joe Astro Fan: Guys, I'm telling you. If Prior can come back healthy, watch out! This is gonna be our year!

AMEN TO THAT!

Come on, guys. I loved Prior in 2003 but he has yet to have a fully healthy season (including 2003) and has had an ERA around 4.50 since then!

As for Prior being a "jerk" as many on here are implying, what exactly should he do. Simply refuse to sign with any other team? The Cubs have not tendered a contract to him (he is not turning his back on CHC as much as they are closing the book on him). If they offer him a contract it is considered, also, an offer of arbitration. Since his pay cut could be no more than 20% the Cubs are not willing to do this. It was a budget move, plain and simple. Other teams can sign him for league minimum but CHC cannot expect to sign him for that.

Actually, it would be 4.27 since 2003, 3.82 if you take out his 2006 stats when he was pitching with a damaged shoulder.

He was likely pitching with a damaged shoulder longer than that. '06 is merely when there was nothing left to it.

WhispersESPN's stable of baseball reporters linked 14 teams to the pursuit of Mark Prior but that list drops when teams check out his medical reports, with Texas the latest to back out. San Diego makes the most sense but the Padres ended trade talks with the Cubs after looking at the medical file. He wants to stay on the West Coast but could wind up in Cincinnati or Houston?

I still shake my head at the fact that all we heard about Prior was how good his mechanics were and that he was not very likely to have injury problems because of them. Now he is one of the biggest health risks in the sport.

It's just sad for both him and the Cubs.

Regardless of mechanics, the overhand throw is the most awkward motion for the human body.

It is, and it seems like a lot of people don't understand just how unnatural a proper overhand pitching delivery truly is. I believe a 3/4 sidearm angle throw is the natural throwing motion for the human body. If a caveman had to pick up a rock and chunk it at something, it certainly wouldn't be throwing like a pitcher.

Prior did/does have a beautiful delivery though.

His throwing arm action is horrible. His non-throwing arm needs to come in more towards his body while bringing his glove in earlier and more gradually.

Everything else is pretty darn nice, though.
