My dislike for Pie has never been refuted. People always ask me why, but I'll never respond until they make a good argument for Pie -- which has not happened yet.

Best athlete & best defensive player in the organization. Gap power & quick bat.

My best arguement is that Soriano played his best when Pie was on the 25 man.

Now spill the beans.

Pecan pie tastes good. Pumpkin pie tastes good.

Blasphemy! I wouldn't suspect you scout types to understand the 6th tool!

The athleticism and defensive abilities can be argued, but they're relatively pointless in the end. He's got a lot of talent, no doubts there, but there are just numerous red flags that suggest his talent will probably not lead to success. If he does, fine. He's a good prospect, but there's no way he's untouchable and if the Cubs can gain themselves wins right now, they should trade him because of his likely high bust rate.

Well that isn't good enough.

.362/.410/.563/.973 in AAA at age 22. Improving walk rate and declining K rate as he ascends the upper levels.

There's no doubts there are negatives (horrible approach at the plate and will cast) and those negatives should be factored with his potential value to the Cubs, I agree he in not untouchable, but he does have qualities that make him an asset and at the current state should be the starting CF'er.

6th tool is makeup. :)

Kosuke Fukudome should be the centerfielder, but of the options he is the best - although that does not say much. The dropoff in talent between him and Colvin is small (basically defense only) so trading him then signing say Lofton to a one year deal for CF is a pretty goood move if we move Pie for a guy like Greene.

Fine 7th tool!

I'm just trying to figure out where Meph's dislike for Pie is coming from.

He could support it but he doesn't feel like it. A luxury you have when you fool yourself into thinking you're smarter than you are is never having to prove you're right nor accept you're wrong - and if you come out looking like an idiot you don't have to care because you're a genius and they're the idiot, Jesus! Meph takes to the Bart Simpson "I can do that but I don't wanna!" school of proof.

You may not like Meph. You may think he's arrogant. But you may not make personal attacks against him. He is entitled to his opinion. Just like you.

I'll jump back in since I kinda started the prospect arguement. What I need to make clear is that I don't think Pie or any of these guys "sucks". They may pan out, but I think it's not likely that many of them will post above average careers. I think they are more valuable to this team as trade chips if you can improve this team now and make the Cubs World Series competitive. This team's window is not that big, not many teams are. It won't be long before Soriano, Lee and Ramirez start declining. It could be three years, or it could only take one injury that starts diminishing returns. I want to win now and I'm willing to trade off a piece, even a big piece, of the future in order to win the whole damn thing now.

This is possibly the most ridiculous thing ever posted on this site.

And that's saying something.

You must have not read any of his other posts. The best policy is to just not reply.

So Meph calls a poster's opinion "[expletive]," someone asks if he's elaborated, I give Meph's "I could but I don't want to" beaut and I'm warned for personal attacks? For quoting a facetious smart alec poster and giving my facetious opinion of the mindset? OK.

Meph:

There is one down side to signing Kenny Lofton for one year, he will cost us a nice draft pick next June. He is not worth it. I am very happy Hendry has not given away any draft picks so far this offseason, and I sure hope he keeps it that way all winter. Sure hurt us on '06 when we didn't have a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round pick. Last year we seemingly had a very good draft with all our picks. So far, we have an extra 1st round pick next June. Let's keep it that way.

Not to get off the whole Pie sucks and everything thread, but does anyone think that we could work a 3 way with seattle and baltimore, somehow ending up with Adam Jones and Bedard. Send Hill to Seattle, Pie to Baltimore and other prospects as needed? Others here know more about this stuff, so just out there for thought.

1. We'll screw ourselves in the draft again.

2. The amount of draft picks we have should NOT have an impact on our draft class, well at least if the Cubs were smart...

3. The Tribe did not offer arbitration to Lofton.

It was my (correct) opinion that his (inaccurate) comparison was [expletive]. Who cares? It wasn't even you so let's not get our panties in a bunch over semantics.

Even if they did offer arbitration, there's no possible way Lofton could have been on the "A" list, could he?

Actually if you were referring to my quote, you completely miss interpreted what I said. My comment was very accurate.

One of the Orioles insiders at orioleshangout.com, on the Cubs' supposed interest in Bedard:

My guy confirmed this interest to me yesterday. Its real.
