I seem to recall in the last Kuroda thread, I said he'd be a spectacular failure. I stand by that.

At almost the same cost as Fukudome of 12 million a season its not going to be too hard for him to fail. The more home games he pitches the better off he will be. Can't do much worse than Kei Igawa.

Kei Igawa makes 4 Million per. If he is anywhere close to Kei Igawa's number he is a SPECTACULAR failure at 12! I also do not think he will do well.

You can't ignore that posting fee, even if you are a Yankee fan.

OK if you want to count the posting fee, He is just over 10 per. Still younger and cheaper. However, he has trade value due to the low contract. So, I still beleive Koroda will be far worse.

Your still going to have to pay at least half of that contract to be able to trade him. Few pitchers were worse last season than Igawa. Even when his era dropped down his BAA went up. .279/.374/.533/.907 is a great line for a hitter. Not for a pitcher in terms of what he gives up.

Hey, don't paint me as an Igawa fan! I thought the Yankees would have learned of Hideki "The Fat Toad" Irabu. If it costs them another 6 million to get rid of him, they might as well keep him. He will be a decent long man. You know, games they are getting blown out he can eat innings, LOL. Maybe he and Carla Pavana can go for a drive together.

Irabu is remembered as this Ishtar-level disaster, but they got a couple of years worth of better-than-league-average pitching out of him, then they were able to trade him for Jake Westbrook and Ted Lilly.

It isn't that I feel Irabu was a complete disaster, but just because you got some good out of it, doesn't mean it wasn't painfull. Sometimes when you have stomach flu, you lose 10 pounds. Doesn't mean I want to run out and get stomach flu once a month. Irabu turned into El Duque turned into Contreras turned into Matsui into Igawa. It is funny my 6 year old is great with visualizing patterns. Bad, decent for a while, bad, decent for a while, bad would be a pattern I would try to end.

Japanese pitchers just don't pan out so well in MLB for some reason. Dice-K hardly panned out to be the phenom that was expected, especially after MLB hitters got to see his stuff the first time around... and IMHO, is nowhere near worth the amount of his contract. I really think he'll turn out like all the other pitchers that came from across the Pacific... either "meh".. or a huge bust. Position players on the other hand, have shown much better results historically at the MLB level (with the exception of KazMat).

I wouldn't be surprised if he has a halfway decent season, considering where he'll be pitching half his games. Also, wasn't his home ballpark in Japan very hitter-friendly?
