According to espn1000(levine) 60 million dollar contract.

$12M per year seems a bit low considering Hunter and Jones each got $18M per year. I didn't expect Rowand to match that but I figured he would get at least $15M per year.

That does seem a bit low. I thought it would be 5/70 at least.

With the Dodgers having two CF'ers and needing a 3B, the Sox having 2 3B and needing a CF'er, I wonder if they would look at a Crede or Fields for Pierre and cash. I'm sure Guillen would love to have Pierre back.

Brian Sabean is hilarious. All the same, this is better than signing Hunter to his ridiculous contract (and, to be honest, better than signing Soriano to his ridiculous contract).

That would make my milenium.

Soriano's contract doesn't look quite so bad in retrospect. Sure 8 yrs 136M is huge, but Jones and Hunter both got 18M/year. Sure the length isn't that long, but who knows what the market will be like at the end of Soriano's contract. I'd rather the Cubs sign Soriano to 8/136 that Hunter at 5/90.

I think Rowand for $12mil/year is a good sign for SF.

I'm not sure I'd consider it good if it was $9mil/year. Especially for five years.

Wow...the Sox lose again.

I consider them to be winners in this saga, not signing Rowand or Hunter.

Who plays CF. Owens?

Maybe KW can trade for Juan Pierre?

I would agree - but Kenny is still going to get bashed by most Sox fans and the media.

Moreso because he's an obnoxious SOB and talks too much.

Preach it.

Rowand's OPS+ the last five years.

Rowand isn't even a great bet to be an above average hitter. And while he certainly hustles on defense, he's only above average with the glove... nothing special.

Rowand is league average... him getting five years, and getting 12 mil per year, are both absolutely ridiculous.

Being league average at the right position and at the right time gets you these kinds of contracts. Last year pitchers like Marquis and Meche were in the $10 million per year range.

UZR likes him, and his career EqA is .278. The years suck, but it's the FA market. This isn't a horrible signing in a vacuum.

So, that leaves Mike Cameron as the last CF free agent available, right? Or is Lofton still looking for work?

Cameron isn't exactly enticing to any team other than the Padres, since the Padres offered him arbitration AND he's suspended for the first 25 games.

Could still be some CFers available, however. Coco Crisp hasn't been moved. Damon isn't exactly a CFer anymore, but he'd probably say he still is.

CPatt's still available isn't he?

and compared to Hunter and Rowand, he'll be a bargain.
