Kosuke: "Joe, I think I'm going to stay here. I'd miss my family too much. I hope you're not angry."

Urbon: "Of course not, son. I'm here to do what you want. I'm your agent. That's my job."

Kosuke: "Thanks. Thanks a lot."

Urbon: "Would you like to see the offers, just for fun?"

Kosuke: "Sure, why not?"

Urbon (lays them out on the table): "Here. Take a look."

Kosuke: "Holy Shinola! The Cubs offered HOW MUCH? Where do I sign?"

Urbon: "And the best part, its the Cubs, so you really dont have to do much for the money."

Kosuke: "I will be home every October."

Time to glue ourselves to sporting news. I will listen to 1000... Someone else keep an ear on 670 - The Score.

I believe Fukudome will be a Cub. From the media reports I've read, the Cubs have offered Fukudome between 12-15 million a year for 3-4 years. The Padres are known to be in at 4 years 40 million (Bruce Levine) so the Cubs would exceed the Padres financially. Furthermore, Jose Guillen signed for 12 million a year and Fukudome's perceived value is greater than Guillen. Taking all this into consideration, unless Fukudome is compelled to be close to his family, he will sign with the Cubs.

I wonder how this guy compares to Beltran? What was the deal signed with the Mets?

$11M signing bonus

$5M at signing 1/05, $2M 6/15/05, $2M 1/15/06, $2M 1/15/07

05:$10M, 06:$12M, 07:$12M, 08:$18.5M, 09:$18.5M, 10:$18.5M, 11:$18.5M

$0.1M bonus each for All Star, Gold Glove or Silver Slugger

$0.2M bonus for 4th-place finish in 2006 NL MVP vote

$22M deferred to 2012-18

8 annual installments of $3,142,857 @ 1.7175% interest

$8.5M deferred annually from 2008-2011

As for his performance, it sounds like he's at least as good if not better than Beltran defensively, and if it so happens that he hits as well here as he did in Japan, he'll compare very favorably offensively.

Thanks BCV! I'd love to see him be at that level as I always wanted Hendry to sign Beltran. This might be a very good thing.

The third team has to be the White Sox. Kenny Williams is trying to be Secret Squirrel about this but he's already on record about having serious interest in Fuk.

I'm thinking it's the royals. They have been in on it for a while now too if I remember correctly.

Yeah, that's a great guess too. It certainly wouldn't surprise me considering their moves lately. I'm just leaning towards the Sox because of all the reason that have already been mentioned here.

Refuting an online report today that Japanese free agent Kosuke Fukudome is set to declare his intentions to play next season in the United States, the outfielder's agent said he has not been informed of a decision and doesn't expect an announcement until early next week.

Agent Joe Urbon said he provided Fukudome on Thursday with enough detailed information from the "manageable few" U.S. teams making serious offers that he expected it to take at least much of the weekend for the player to make a decision. And even if he makes the decision to play in the U.S., Fukudome would be expected to meet personally with two Japanese teams with interest before announcing anything to teams in the States.

Agent Joe Urbon said there was no truth to the report that Kosuke Fukudome was set to announce his intention to play in the U.S.

That was reported by FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal earlier in the day. It's still expected that Fukudome will play in the U.S., but Urbon indicated that he's a few days away from choosing his new team.

So who is correct? Rosenthal or his agent? His agent sounds like he doesn't have a clue.

Rosenthal hasn't had a clue this whole offseason.
