According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, the Twins are interested in free agent David Eckstein. I imagine they'd use him as a shortstop, since they have a couple of second base options in Alexi Casilla and Brendan Harris.

It's been said Eckstein is looking for a deal in the range of four years and $36MM. He reportedly turned down a four-year offer from the Mets earlier this winter.

Looks like all that grit talk has gotten into his head.

Eckstein is the only SS on the market who belongs in the major leagues. It's not a bad starting point.

Just because he is the only one who belongs in the majors on the market does not make him good or worth $36mil/4yrs.

But if a team is looking to acquire a starting SS, and doesn't have the pieces for Tejada, what else do you suggest they do?

Find a secondbasemen with a good glove and move him to SS.

Do something like trade for an underappreciated asset currently tearing up the VWL.

Can we change the title of the subject? It's un-American not to be ambitious, strive for the best (whether it be quality, money, etc...) and shoot for the moon. If David Eckstein thinks he's worth 4 years and $24M in the current landscape, why shouldn't he ask for $36M and see what happens? As with most things in the end, he'll get what the market can bear. The smoking crack comment is inappropriate here IMHO. Edited by HoopsCubs

These smoking crack comments are not appropriate guys.

I'm not going to spend the time doing it..but I'm pretty sure I could find over 1,000 better options then signing David Eckstein.

I think they're completely appropriate. He's on something if he thinks league average performance should earn him $9m per.

Not if he can get it.

If someone is stupid enough to give it to him, I'll gladly edit my comments to indicate that the GM in question smokes crack. Until then, David will have to smoke it all by himself.
