I dont know much about Teahan, but his stats suggest he's just like Murton but left-handed...Can anyone fill me in?

That sounds like a pretty good description, although he may be better defensively as I think he came up as a 3B and played a few games in CF last year as well as RF.

Not that'll happen. Teahen's very mobile for his size. He might be mobile enough to play 2B non-Jeterian to the point where his bat more than makes up for his defensive miscues, in a Jeff Kent lite sort of way.

Aha, so Hendry is still looking at 2B. now it makes sense.

I don't know much about Teahen but looking at the Stats why is everyone excited about this? What am I missing?

I imagine it would take more than Murton to get Teahen.

Eric Patterson? A reliever like Petrick or Roquet?

Why? They're the same guy, with Murton not being quite as good defensively and hitting RH.

Actually it may not. The Royals already have a logjam at 1B/3B/DH with Alex Gordon, Billy Butler and a few others. That's why Teahen moved to the outfield. Murton for Teahen are similar players. If anything a crappy prospect like Roquet would be thrown in. Murton alone is good enough for the deal.

was teahen hurt or something last year?

Si.

I wonder if Hendry is trying to get Teahen as a 3B for the Pirates and come out of the exchange with McLouth.

The Pirates wanted to get Headley from the Padres for Nady and McLouth.

Teahen to the Pirates. McLouth to the Cubs. Murton to the Royals.

Balance as necessary.

I'd rather just keep Teahen over McLouth.

Well, of course. I wasn't suggesting a course of action.

FWIW, the 2nd half of 2006 for Teahan was awesome. He was probably a top 5 player in the AL after the 06 break. A full year of that is probably not likely, but he showed flashes of being a legit .850+ OPS hitter.

teahen is a moneyball-draft guy.

I was about to ask this. I thought his name sounded familiar from somewhere other than just ESPN/sports talk radio/etc. Wasn't he their top pick in that draft?

After Swisher, IIRC. He was one of the sandwich picks.

Correct. He ended up in KC in the Beltran-Dotel three-way trade.

The advantage for the Royals here is that I believe Teahan is one year closer to arbitration than Murton is.

So I don't think a 2nd player would be needed for this swap.

Personally, I think Murton would be better for the Cubs considering the Cubs had problems with LHP. The answer to that, in my opinion, is to have players who can hit LHP, not necessarily just players that are Left handed. Teahan is a lefty that doesn't hit LHP. Murton is a righty who hits LHP well.

Seems to put the Cubs further from where they want to be.
