Thanks. I couldn't think of who they had in the minors.

I guess I'm the only person here that doesn't think Milledge is going to be that good? Personally, I think he's overrated and from what I've read a pretty selfish player.

A year ago at this time, I wonder what the Mets could have got for Milledge? Buy high, sell low. Make sense to me.

I always thought it was strange how they blocked Milledge with guys like Shawn Green.

And now they sell him, when his value is at the lowest, during an offseason where overpriced CF's are cashing in everywhere. I'm perplexed.

I'm perplexed, but moreso with the Cubs for not creating more value for their own players. Pie, Murton and Cedeno just aren't getting a fair shake. Trading any of them now will not net the return they could or should. You could probably make that same argument for Marshall. The need to get the 3rd lefty arm out of the rotation in favor of a crappy RH veteran just doesn't generate much trade value.

I don't see why Schneider is worth anything... but Church has some value. He's an 800+ OPS guy and can play CF. But it's not like he's any better than Milledge, who is also younger. I can see this as a good deal for the Nats -- they never liked Church much and Schneider is terrible. But the Mets? I'm not sure.

The Mets desired a defensive 1st C and Schnieder is prob. 2nd to Molina in that regard. That's a hell of a combo between Peterson and Schnieder, I haven't followed V. Diaz too much, but that could work as a platoon, but I seem to think Diaz has struggled having not found a role.

Are you talking about the Victor Diaz who plays for the Texas Rangers?

Defense. He's one of the best defensive catchers and baseball and can get on base at a decent rate. From 2004-07, Schneider had a total WARP3 of 17.6, while Barrett's was 13.4. Even if you take Barrett's disastrous 2007 out of the equation, Schneider had a better WARP3 each year from 2004 through 2006.

Now one could certainly question why the Mets have taken on Brian Schneider and Johnny Estrada. That makes as little sense as Hendry's 2B infatuation.

Estrada was just a means to dump Mota.

Hey guys, remember when Milledge was regarded as one of the better prospects in the game? That was what, one year ago? And all the Mets got in return for him was Ryan Church and Brian Schneider? The Nats made out like bandits.

i also remember when ruben rivera and alex ochoa were the next vlad guerrero. A lot of prospects in New York get the "one of the better prospects in the game" label without being that great.

Brian Schneider-C-Nationals Nov. 30 - 1:04 pm et

SNY is reporting that the Mets have acquired Brian Schneider and Ryan Church from the Nationals for Lastings Milledge.

We wrote four days ago that the Mets shouldn't part with Milledge for Schneider. Church, though, helps even it up. The one concern for the Nats is that a lot of teams are down on Milledge as a center fielder. If they decide he can't handle the position, they'd probably use him in left and bench Wily Mo Pena. Austin Kearns in center, with Milledge in right, should be an option, but manager Manny Acta wasn't willing to go there last season. Schneider to the Mets means that Johnny Estrada will be non-tendered after all. The Nats will probably bring in Paul Lo Duca or Michael Barrett until Jesus Flores is ready.

This would be flat-out hilarity.

According to Rotoworld, the Mets offered to throw in Estrada into the deal as a freebie and the Nats didn't want him.

Whose Cheerios did Estrada pee in? Wow.

A .296 OBP, not throwing anybody out last year, a little injury prone at the worst position for that, and making at least a couple million dollars? Plus, he got a little violent with his manager last year (although some fans may view this as a positive concerning Yost, MLB executives don't). I can see why very few people would want him.

How can you leave out Ricky Ledee and Melky Cabrera?

I guess so, sue for not tracking the whereabouts of Diaz.
