I know ive been against it in the past, but now that I think about it, nobodys seriously persuing him.

He may not hit for avg, but we could use a mindless home run hitter at the heart of theorder, who happens to be an amazing fielder. Plus, like every power hitter, he kills the ball at Wrigley.

Im just saying, if we cant land Fukodome or pull off a trade.

You can't sit there and say a guy sucks after having one bad season in the last 10. I think it would be great to have him on ouor team but we have to remember that Boras is his agent which means he is going to want the money, plus we have other holes to fill this offseason.

Plus Boras has said that Jones isn't going to take a one-year "make good" contract, which is as much as I would be willing to offer him. Not to mention a player on our team named Pie.

Oh, and not to mention that he had 26 homers last year which would have put him in a tie with Ramirez for second on the team and 94 RBI's which i believe would have put him second as well behind Soriano. Also coming off the worst year of his career he still managed to pull off grabbing another gold glove.

My friend and I were discussing Jones yesterday. I think his price will be too high but I would take a flier on him if the price was right and considering Boras is his agent, I doubt it.

Andruw Jones is past his prime, and is going to be wildly overpaid.

No thanks.

I dont know if he is past his prime, IMO I think he is in the last stages of his prime. I agree, he will be wildy overpaid and for that I agree, Just say no!

If he signs a 4 year deal, you might get you money's worth for 1 year of it.

No thanks.

He also hit .222 and gold gloves are pretty meaningless.

If he would take a 2 year deal with perhaps performance related incentives to kick in further years, I'd probably bite. He's not as good as he was in '06 but he's also not as bad as he was in '07. I'd expect about .260/.340/.460 with a bunch of homers. That would look pretty good in CF, comparatively. I'm not quite as sold on Pie as some people (I think he has all the potential in the world but until he produces it's just that, potential) so I'm not ready to stand pat.

That being said, Fukudome is likely to be a better bargain. Even a stopgap like Kenny Lofton is probably going to be a better value. But if the market isn't there for Jones and Boras doesn't find an idiot, I'd take him for the right price.

It's moot anyway, there's plenty of idiots and Boras will get 4 years out of someone. Just hope it isn't us.

The problem is that performance incentives can't be tied to anything worthy tying them to. Typically it's a playing time incentive, to save teams from paying oft-injured guys. But that doesn't help the Cubs, because Andruw could give them 162 games of crap production. You could include incentives for being an all star or getting MVP votes, but those are pretty arbitrary and can be achieved without actually producing.

...yet. His market won't develop until after Hunter signs. Possibly not until Rowand is seriously pursued as well.

some of you just don't get it. Did you not watch the playoffs? We lost because we have a team full of free swingers. And you want to add another one? Why?

I still like Andruw. Those projections would be about .030 off of his career power numbers. He's a guy I would imagine would love to hit in Wrigley. His defense is severely overrated at this point, as he's not the fielder that Crisp and Tavares are. And guys like Rowand, Beltran, and Matthews are pretty close if not better.

Given people's reaction to Marquis contract, if Jones signed a 4 year deal with the Cubs I would expect Tim's server to explode.

I don't think he will be as bad as he was last season, but I just don't see a point in signing him.

Kenny Lofton

Lefty? Check

Speed? Check

OBP? Check

Can catch the ball? Check

Sounds like he should be pretty attractive to Hendry

Do the Cubs get any kind of tax breaks for hiring Senior Citizen's?

I think Marquis and Andruw are very different, and I doubt the reaction would be nearly the same. I absolutely hated everything about the Marquis signing. I wouldn't be a big fan of Andruw coming here, but he'd probably help, and I wouldn't hate it that much.

Number of Marquis' great full seasons before being signed with the cubs=0

Number of Marquis' really good full seasons before being signed with the cubs=0

Number of Marquis' alright full seasons before being signed with the cubs=1 (3 years before signing)

Number of Jones' good full seasons before being FA=2

I'd be perfectly happy to see the Cubs sign Andruw for $60/5.

I imagine there's essentially zero chance he'd sign for that, though.

Posted

I'd be happy to have Andruw at 5/60 as well. He's still a decent defender in CF and if he'd shift to RF, he would be an excellent defender there as well.

I'm not sure what his struggles were all about last season, but if he were reasonably priced, he'd be worth a shot.

I don't think a Jones signing would cause a Marquis-like reaction. I figure it would be more like the reaction to Soriano. Some in favor, some against, and many not liking the number of years and dollars.
