I still like Andruw. Those projections would be about .030 off of his career power numbers. He's a guy I would imagine would love to hit in Wrigley. His defense is severely overrated at this point, as he's not the fielder that Crisp and Tavares are. And guys like Rowand, Beltran, and Matthews are pretty close if not better.

According to the Fielding Bible, he was the 2nd best defensive CF in MLB last year, ahead of Crisp et al.

Just sayin.

Andruw Jones is past his prime, and is going to be wildly overpaid.

No thanks.

nail meet head.

andruw jones is 30 years old, i don't think it's fair to assume that he's past his prime. he had a down year last year, but that doesn't necessarli imply a trend. wildly overpaid, yes.

What's so unfair about it? Being past your prime doesn't mean impending doom, it means your best days are behind you, and that's almost a certainty for a guy like Jones, who turns 31 this year. His age 28 season, with a career best 136 OPS+, will probably never be duplicated the rest of his career. He shows no signs of being a guy who will work his tail off to prolong his prime past the norm.

It's going to be interesting to see what kind of deal Jones ends up with.

The Rangers are another team I've heard are only interested in giving Jones a 1-year contract.

Link.

The next rung of center fielders includes Andruw Jones, in whom the Rangers are only interested if he's willing to take a one-year deal. Agent Scott Boras has already said that won't happen. The club's interest in Aaron Rowand is lukewarm. The most attractive free agent now might be Mike Cameron, who could probably be had for a two- or three-year commitment at less than $10 million per year. Cameron remains an excellent fielder but is very strikeout prone. Cameron, who turns 35 in January, will also have to serve a 25-game suspension at the start of next season for testing positive for a banned substance.

That shows you how crazy this market is. It's considered good when a suspended Mike Cameron can be had for only 2-3 years for less than 10 million a year.

Andruw Jones-OF-Braves Dec. 3 - 2:24 pm et

A source told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick that the Dodgers have a two-year, $32 million offer to Andruw Jones on the table.

That's not the kind of offer that figures to make Jones sign on the dotted line anytime soon. No one has stepped up with the kind of five- or six-year deal agent Scott Boras wants, but it'd be a surprise if some team wasn't willing to go to at least $50 million for three years.

Tony Jackson of the Los Angeles Daily News said there's no truth to ESPN's rumor that the Dodgers have offered Andruw Jones a two-year, $32 million contract.

The Dodgers are interested and it's possible they've discussed the framework of such an offer, but the proposal hasn't been made, apparently. Jackson also says there's nothing to the Blalock-to-L.A. rumors.
