10/280 is the number I've heard and that sounds about right (with incentives that push it beyond 300). Where have you heard 10/220, thats pretty ridiculous considering he walked away from 3/81. You'd have a crapload of teams drooling over him at 10/220.

Yeah, there's no way this is less than 10/250.

I, for one, won't feel the least bit sorry for ARod if he gets booed in New York from here on out if he decides to go back there. When he was originally traded there in 04, he didn't know that the media and fans would blame him for every bad thing that happened to the team and that he would become the scapegoat. Now he knows that's what it's like and he's an idiot if he thinks thats going to change because he decided to stay.

Have fun getting booed for the next 10 years ARod and having your every move scrutinized and picked apart by the media. I hope you enjoy it.

How ticked must the Red Sox be??? ARod upstages them moments before they win the WS, and now kicks them in the balls by staying with the Yanks... =D>

I'm guessing not ticked at all, since they won the world series and are probably the favorite to win it next year.

yeah, it's gonna be hard for me to feel too sorry for arod now.

At least I'll have a use for the ARod jersey I bought a couple years ago for a Halloween costume. I was looking forward to wearing it over a cubs shirt, but I'm sure Alex will do something over the next year to inspire a new costume.

ESPN was saying 10/220 last time I heard. Rodriguez is an ass if he went ahead and negotiated without Boras. Thanks for the help Scott, oh by the way see ya later, and I'll be taking your commission with me. And yeah, I know it's sacrilege to feel bad for Boras, but it's a bogus move to pull if the story is as reported where he's ceding to the Yankees demands that Boras not be involved in the negotiations.

I've always been very pro A-Rod and the NY media and fans have been disgraceful towards him, but he needs to get over this wanting to be loved thing. Go out and do your thing, go be Barry Bonds if you have to and be surly to everyone, don't come to me with this public half apology on your website. They're never going to love you there, and if you can't handle that then don't go back.

A-Rod approached the Yanks without Boras. The Yanks can not talk money to a player without his agent present, per the CBA. Boras is involved, but only as an advisor. Don't feel sorry for Boras, he will still get his money.

The deal bounces around 10/220 to 10/290, depending on who reports it. I also heard 10/260. So I will wait for the press conference to pass judgement. But here are my options, 10/220-235 Hank wins, 10/250 push 10/260-290 Hank is an ass.

Yeah I still think anything over @25mil/yr for a very long time like 10 years is just like chaining a 200lb anvil to your neck. It was a bad idea when Texas did it, so ARod had to go to the only place who could pay it, and even then they had help from Texas.

Then after he gets there, the money is so damn high even a mini slump is treated like the World Trade Center just got bombed again. So ARod has to deal with pressure so ungodly strong nobody can deal. Playoffs come, he wilts, and the fans just freak out even more.

This is just too much money, for too long of a period of time, for a 32-year-old baseball player. Get me under $25mil/yr for fewer years and it's worth hoping the Cubs jump. As it stands, I hope he goes back to the Yanks.

Did you slap anyone that tried to touch you and bring a girl named Molly Mount to the party?

btw, between the torre stuff and now the two-faced response to the ARod issue, i'd say that Hal Steinbrenner is shaping up to be just as effective an evil villain as his father is/was.

It's easier to spend money when it's your daddy's too!

That's where George got his too, from his dad. In fact that is the main reason why most people are wealthy in the first place. Not rich, wealthy.

Another tidbit from Buster Olney from ESPN.com:

The A-Rod signing does seem to clear one potential suitor from the Mike Lowell bidding, and perhaps increase the likelihood that Lowell goes back to Boston -- although the suggestion has been raised, within the Yankees' organization, to sign Lowell to play first base. The Yankees are still talking with Lowell, writes George King.

So, they are thinking of signing both ARod and Lowell? They may not have any money next year for Johan Santana!

ESPN reporting A-Rod and Yankees have agreed to an outline deal.

10/275 with profit-sharing clauses for when ARod starts passing HR milestones.

If I'm going to pay you 27 million a year, you damn well better be able to hit AND pitch.

That doesn't happen anymore, guy.

That's exactly my point. I wouldn't pay ANYONE playing today that kind of money.

That's only because you can't afford it. Obviously they can, and there's no reason not to pay it.

I agree. Maybe if the Cubbies had a little vision regarding marketing they might be able to make some cash so they could do the same thing. Imagine having a 200 million budget?

I bet you'd pay zombie Ty Cobb that kinda scratch.
