Ouch. I like Crawford and think he could be a star (not a superstar, but a star) for the next 5 years. But Hill + Marmol? One or the other is fine. Both is a bit outrageous.

I would rather have Hill than Crawford.

Just browsing through message boards and seen this....

Apparently, Tampa Bay radio stations are reporting the deal is close and that the Cubs would get Crawford for Hill, Cedeno, and Marmol.

Gross. Carl Crawford VORPed 38, while Hill and Marmol VORPed 40.3 and 34.5 respectively.

Does some of a players VORP depend upon how good a team he was on? Surely that must matter.

Don't think so

Well the good thing if that is true, is at least Hendry is trying to maximize Marmols value, although it would be nice to see him used to get a "superstar", and not just a good player. I really cant wait for the day Hendry is done.

Yikes.

Yeah, that's about how I feel about it.

25yo's that average 200 hits and 55 sb's a year aren't going to be cheap.

But to give up a SP and/or a shutdown reliever and perhaps future closer is a bit steep. Cedeno I could care less, he's never impressed me.

Agreed. Hill/Cedeno or Marmol/Cedeno would work for me, albeit even with those two combos, it's a bit hard to swallow.

I would waffle a bit on this, but I might trade Hill for Crawford. But not both Hill and Marmol.

Maybe Jim wants to offer Wood the closer's job (how Hendry would that be?).

Absolutely nothing said about this on Tampa Bay radio. I'm gonna say this one is not true. I've been listening to the radio for 5 minutes now and haven't even heard "Crawford," "Chicago," or "trade."

that's a VERY fair point. While losing Marmol could be a bit to swallow, his value is very unlikely to ever be this high again.

I'm no fan of Crawford's, but I'd do the latter in a second.

That better not be true. I'd be fine including Marmol, I guess, although I'd rather not. But including Hill decimates our rotation, and there wouldn't be a ready fill-in for him.

I'd prefer the Cubs trade Pie this offseason for someone good. I'm not convinced Pie will ever be more than Jacque Jones.

I have a feeling this is just one of many threads we will see this off-season that have little or no truth in them.

But hey, there isn't much else to talk about.

What if it were MARSHALL, Marmol + Cedeno?

I'd be okay with that, but I think Hill, Marmol, and Cedeno is too much.

Easier to live with, but still a waste of Marmol's value right now. If you're gonna package him and Hill together, hell, toss in Murton and shoot for the moon and see what people offer. Don't settle on Crawford.

The Cubs have plenty of guys to fill the rotation, which most definitely is not decimated by this deal if true.

Always wondered that myself. How much has Lowell's VORP improved by playing in an all star line up like Boston compared to Florida?

They just had an update on the Tampa radio station and had no mention of anything about Rays baseball. Only pro and college football updates.
