Will Hendry Replace Dempster in the FA Market?

With Dempster now in the rotation, do you think it's possible Hendry will look for a new closer in the FA market rather than use what he already has in Howry, Marmol or Wood (if he's re-signed)?

 

I would plug Howry in as closer but I wouldn't put it past Hendry to look at Francisco Cordero.

Just a guess on my part: if he signs Wood, he won't look at a closer. If he doesn't sign Wood, all bets are off.

It would be pathetic if the primary target of our offseason is a relief pitcher but it wouldn't surprise me. Hendry has always been a fool for whatever reliever is the hot commodity in any given offseason.

I agree with this. Hendry will sign one free agent reliever this winter. I think it will be Kerry Wood. If it isn't him, I don't know who it will be.

Ugh. I'm going to be extremely upset if Dempster is in our starting rotation next year, and even more upset if Hendry replaces him by signing another reliever to a big contract. These clowns running the Cubs can't leave soon enough. Oh, and I love the fact that Hendry spewed off that garbage about Dempster being an all-star 7 years ago. Idiot.

My guess would be yes and no. Hendry will go outside of the organization for a reliever, but not a closer. He will sign a FA lefty for the pen, my guess is JC Romero.

If you consider Woody a FA, then yes! I think Wood will get a similar deal that Demp is playing with now to close next year.
