I just heard on ESPN 1000 that both the Cubs and WSox have contacted TB about Crawford. I'd give up Pie and a prospect for him.

Tampa will want pitching. That's all they should want. They need another outfielder like they need another hole in the head.

Can he play CF? Or, does Soriano need to be moved to RF?

Soriano should probably be moved to RF anyway. It seems to be much easier finding a power-hitting LF than it is to find a power-hitting RF. Soriano definitely has the arm and could handle RF.

If I'm TB, I ask for Hill, Marmol and Gallagher to start with.

I wonder if you could talk them into like Marshall, Veal and Marmol.

Great point, I totally forgot how stacked they were in the OF. I would love to have Crawford or Gomes. Crawford has played a handful of games in CF but not much.

I think TB would want Hill + more young pitching for Carl.

I guess it depends on if they can sign/trade for a legit #2 or #3 pitcher.

I know Lou loves Crawford.

That's the thing with Hendry. He seems to morph himself into a GM based on who he hires as a manager instad of having an overriding philosophy and finding people who fit into that philosophy.

Is that because he can't play it well or they had a better defensive CF?

I thought his numbers were good for a CF but are they good enough for the corner?

I'd cream if they got both, but judging from the PR story by Muscat and Hendry's quotes about Theriot being an "everyday guy" I tend to think ARod won't be in the Cubs plans. Crawford, I'd love but I don't know if Hill + is a good deal.

Trade Hill+others for Crawford, then maybe sign Schilling to take Hill's spot in the rotation, fill out the bench and call it an offseason?

I think you could sell TB on a package of people other than Hill.

Maybe Gallagher, Marmol and Marshall/Veal.

I am not against getting Carl Crawford. I understand that he is still probably not in his prime yet. I also see that he has been steadily improving so far. I just dont see a great player by looking at his stats. I wouldnt put Hill in any trade that involves Crawford. Unless straight up. I think other teams will be offering more though. I think Crawford has a couple of stats that really appeal to a lot of GMs (BA,SB). He doesnt draw walks or hit for much power though. He is probably over valued and I would be against getting into a bidding war for him.

We'd still be one power bat away from having a good offense, while at the same time paying an extra 10 million for a pitcher who would probably put up the same stats as Hill.

Well, as Hoops suggested, maybe it's possible to get him without giving up Hill, but we're going to remain one power bat away from having a good offense as long as the organization keeps this infatuation with Ryan Theriot.

Agreed. I mean I like Crawford and all - he'd definitely be an upgrade in CF - but we're talking about a guy who walked 32 times last year and had an OPS+ of 117. Good, yes. Great? Good enough to gut your pitching staff for? Not quite, IMHO.

I think Crawford's biggest asset is his age (25), and that's why TB will likely get someone to overpay for him (via trade).

If we get someone with power for the outfield, Theriot doesn't become as much of a problem. It's almost impossible to find a SS with legitimate power, not so for outfielders.

Perhaps we should go after Drew then. He'd undoubtedly be cheaper, and he can hit the long ball.

I want no part of Crawford if it includes giving up Hill or Marmol.

I agree with you on Hill, but Marmol's value has never been higher, and relievers are a volatile commodity. We'd be selling high, and his absence wouldn't be missed as much as we'd gain from getting an impact bat.

For the right price, I'd deal him without hesitation.

I get the feeling that every offseason I'm going to be reminded of how much it annoys me that we're paying Soriano so much to play LF. I'd love to add Crawford with some young pitching and use the money we're paying Soriano (plus more) to sign ARod or trade for Tejada or whatever. Any scenario that would allow Murton & Pie to be cheap sources of solid production. As it is, if we acquire Crawford, we might as well trade Murton for pitching b/c it makes little sense to have either Pie or Murton in AAA or on the bench at the beginning of next year. Both have established all they can in AAA and need starting gigs, either here or elsewhere. If we go into next year with Murton as a role player and end up trading him at his lowest value point, I'm going to be even more pissed at Jim.

I would only go after him if we could then get something good for Pie. Isn't Crawford exactly what Pie is suppose to be, only not as good defensively? Since Crawford is somewhat proven, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get him if we can get a good pitcher for Pie.

Trade Hill for Crawford, then send Pie, Cedeno, Gallagher, Veal, Marshall to Baltimore for Bedard and Tejada.

Zambrano

Bedard

Lilly

Marmol/Hart

Marquis/Prior

DeRosa -2B

Crawford -CF

Lee -1B

Ramirez -3B

Soriano -RF

Tejada -SS

Soto -C

Murton -LF
