No, it's perfectly acceptable to have down years conference wise. My point was, BW has taken a former NC contender and turned them into a team struggling to compete in the Big 10, even though it's a down year for that conference.

I wonder if that has anything to do with our best player being suspended for the year and losing out on a top rated recruit at the last second? Huh?

I'm sure that does. And that all happened under Bruce's watch.

Yep, that makes sense. Bruce should have not let those kids out of the dorms at all. God if only he were more like Self and never had offcourt player issues. God if only we didn't have a moon bar in Champaign. . . oh wait. That stuff happens anywhere. We have rebounded with our recruiting. Weber has not driven us into the ground. We had a bad year. It happens.

Who said it's fair? It's not fair to be labeled a bad coach when you win 71% of your games but lose in a crapshoot tourney, but you're ok with that.

Self did the right thing and got rid of the trouble makers, permanently. Giles, Giddens. Gone. Jamar might be a different story. I don't know enough about him, to be honest. But my first instinct is that he should've been gonzo cnsidering how effed up that mistake was.

Those recruits have to actually make to campus, first.

Well it doesn't look like we have to worry about Sampson stealing them anymore. Giles and Giddens both were repeat offenders were they not?

Heh...I certainly wouldn't call Jamar Smith Illinois' best player. At least if we're going by the same Jamar Smith that I saw for the first half of last season.

You do know that Smith supposedly battled alcohol problems all year last year and physical injuries? I am talking the guy who shot about 45 percent from three his freshman year.

He was unconscious his freshman year, but I attribute some of that to having Dee Brown and James Augustine giving him some very good looks every time he had the ball.

There's no question that he has an awesome shot. Who knows, maybe Smith could have become Illinois' best player. But I still think that McCamey has a higher ceiling than Jamar does.

Yes, but to expect McCamey as a freshman to be better than Smith as a junior is laughable. Also this would have been the first year Jamar would have played with a true point guard. I love Dee Brown, but if he were a true point guard he would still be in the NBA.

Giddens stole from wal-mart while in high school. Can't remember if there was more. Giles was as dumb as a stone, and he was definitely a repeat offender. I think he got 3 strikes. Deserved only 2, imo. It's the nature of Jamar's mistake that makes me think he should be a "one strike, you're out" guy.

I would agree, but the kid he did it to is still his best friend and biggest supporter. Also the recruit thing is pretty lame, We have had one kid commit and not make it to campus. Well 2 with Charlie V, but our coach left. That one made perfect sense. These are all Illinois kids, sans Griffey. They are all coming.

so who else is watching holy cross against bucknell on espn2 at 6:00 this evening????

I'm watching, Truff.

Ok, time for ASU and Cal.

I just read that Robbie Hummel was from Champaign and both parents went to Illinois and played sports. He apparently wanted to go to Illinois, but Weber didn't think he was a Big Ten level player. Where are my matches?

Reminds me of Mike Davis not wanting to recruit Mike Conley Jr in order to try and get Oden....and even further, he accidentally sent a recruiting letter addressed to another kid to the Conley household.

And Rodney Carney saying he would have played for IU instead of Memphis if IU had ever recruited him. :banghead:

Did I pick the right week to be secluded or what? I was asked by my school to help out with the annual senior class retreat (private catholic school). So I was cut off from the outside world for 4 full days, was kind of nice actually.

I missed the IU crapstorm.

Sampson is as good as gone. I wonder who the next coach will be. Has there been any speculation yet?

Awesome Pruitt got the last shot for us again. Good call Bruce. Keep giving that underachiever the ball with the game on the line. Good things always happen. Did anyone see the game? Did Meahem really foul?

That other kid was Sherron Collins.

That's the first I'd heard of it. I'd thought he was a Purdue lean from the get-go.

HUGE road win for us against Wichita State as we completely dominated them in OT. Wichita State is tied for last in the conference, but they got one of their best players back tonight in Matt Brauer. Plus, I'd figured that they'd be a chore for us seeing how much we struggle on the road.

Just one game behind ISU for 2nd in the Valley. 3 home games left with only 1 roadie left including a home game against ISU to close out the regular season. We control our own destiny for the 2nd seed in the Valley.

Of all the people to go down with an injury, it had to be DJ. I'm not even thinking of what happens to the team without him. I feel sick if it's serious. He's worked so hard and gotten so much better in his senior year and had an NBA career lined up, and now possibly this. He's played his heart out all year, and has been one of the only things Hoosier fans can be proud of this year. Hopefully he won't be gone long.

IU has had a different energy level to them tonight than they have most of the season. They are finally starting to look like a pretty good defensive team, although they still have some serious lapses. This has easily been their best half of the season so far.

So is anyone getting the Memphis game? Was Chris Douglas-Roberts really fouled or was this another cheapy?
