IU will be "nothing" next year?

didn't you say that about Ohio State after losing Oden/Conley Jr.? Aren't they, um, 16-7 (7-3) this year?

and didnt' McCamey give a verbal commit to IU but back out to go to UofI? did he "screw Indiana's program"? do they have some childish acronym for him in Bloomington?

No McCamey did not. Just another false truth told by ESPN last night. Goes along with Gordon opening up his recruting. By opening up they mean we found out when he showed up at IU's MM. McCamey was waiting for us to offer the whole time. He has said in interviews we are his dream school.

BS

So him telling Weber, a newspaper, and Illinois fans that week he was still 100 percent committed isn't what happened?

Nobody was dense enough to think he wasn't considering IU after Davis left and they hired Sampson. It was common knowledge. To act like you or Weber or anyone else was blind-sided is a joke.

Gordon/Gordon Sr. (and Sampson) went about it the wrong way, for sure. But this thing was all over the press as soon as Sampson got hired. Everyone knew it was a possibility.

I repeat the same question? You gonna answer it? The Gordon's are classless. You do now EJSR flipped off the crowd yesterday as he was leaving? WTF is wrong with him? What kind of reaction did he expect? If he was that bothered he shouldn't have came.

What? Answer the question? Give me a break. You are right (though I don't remember exactly that it was "that week") that those things were said. That's not the point. Everyone knew it was happening. Everyone.

I clearly stated that Gordon and Gordon Sr. (and to a lesser extent IMO, Sampson) were in the wrong. Call it classless or whatever. It was wrong. What else is there to say?

Gordon Sr. is an attention whore. I don't really care. I care about him flipping off the crowd about as much as I care about some moron throwing beeds and ice at them, which is to say...I don't. It has nothing to do with the game. All this whoa is me stuff (from both Weber and Gordon Sr.) is stupid and lame. It is what it is. Move on.

Well it is done now. Barring us meeting in the Big Ten Tournament. Which probably won't happen as you guys will get a bye.

I have no horse in this race at all, the only thing I find funny is how IU is 19-3 (8-1) while Illinois is 10-14 (2-9) but most Illinois fans seem certain that they will dominate Indiana immediately once this season is over and IU will go nowhere this year.

Indiana is a flawed team without a PF or true PG. But they also have one of the five best guards in the country and maybe one of the five best big men in the country this year. They'll be a 4 seed at the lowest and will get to the Sweet 16.

I don't think Sampson is proving a lot as a coach this year and I don't like him at all, but they have some decent talent coming in and aren't completely going away.

With Illinois, I know you have Legion and Smith coming in next year and with McCamey that can be a really nice backcourt. I just think you're getting a little ahead of yourselves especially when I don't think Weber still has that "great coach" tag that he always got when people criticized his recruiting.

Well we know we are a terrible team and that they are supposed to be a good team. Yet everytime we have played them they have barely beaten us. We also played Duke, they had no such problem taking us to the woodshed. They lose Gordon and White next year. In the next three years we add the most talent we have ever had, IU could be on probabtion. Are you still failing to see why we think we will be better going forward?

and who's to say that your great recruits don't all bolt after THEIR freshmen year?

At what point did I say any of them were that good? Maybe Jereme Richmond can do that, but even then I doubt that as we will be pretty good and he won't get to run loose like Gordon does.

i honestly don't know anything about your recruits, which is why i'm asking. from what i can gather, you have good recruits, but not so good they'll leave early, but good enough to be better than Indiana for years to come? how are IU's recruits?

They have a very good one for '08 whose name eludes me. After that they have struggled because of the impending NCAA investigation. Trust me, people better kick us now while we are down.

IU is not struggling in recruiting whatsoever.

For 08, they have Devin Ebanks (ranked 12th in the county), a pretty good point guard (Holloway), and then two good role players (Roth and Pritchard). That overall gives them the #15 recruiting class for 08.

In 09, they've landed a decent power forward and are on many lists for many of the nations top players. There is absolutely no indication that their recruiting is struggling because of any investigation.

I do agree that Illinois will be a lot better in the next few years though. I expect to see several more years of a very good and unfortunately very heated rivalry.

Ebanks is the guy I couldn't remember. He is a stud. Should take over nicely for Gordon. Holloway is good, but probably won't play for awhile because of the guard talent you have. I really like Jordan Crawford. Really like him. But, in '09 I had heard they are not doing nearly as well.

That's true to some extent. They don't have the kind of guys lined up that Weber does (from what I've seen).

Lose DJ and probably lose Gordon, but do bring back every other contributor on the team.

uhhhhh.

They have two other players averaging in double figures. I'd say Bassett and Crawford are contributers. They also have a solid recruiting class, with one stud coming. Obviously, some slippage will occur, but I seriously doubt they're going away. They should be pretty good next season, and are in on many top players for 2009. We'll see how that works out. Illinois is bringing some great recruiting classes but IU won't be devoid of talent.

I don't think many, if any, IU fans have been claiming the team is very good right now. I wanted to reserve judgment until the meat of the schedule, and, to this point, they've pretty much failed. I think the next four games are going to be a big struggle. IU's not very good right now, and Sampson certainly isn't a very good coach. Regardless, though, last night's game figured to be difficult. It was the opponent's game of the year.

A foul shouldn't have been called on Pruitt. That ostensibly would've been the officials deciding the game. I did think that the foul on Ellis was pretty iffy, however.

Finally, Gordon made statements to the media in July that he was considering IU. He still prefaced it by saying he was going to Illinois, but what did that mean? He didn't handle the situation well, and neither did his father or Sampson. But to imply no one knew anything until Midnight Madness is completely intellectually dishonest. We all knew what was going on and we're message board losers.

Obviously that he still was not in fact going to Illinois. Had he just decommitted we could have pursued Alex Legion a lot harder and maybe had him for this year. Or a group of other guys. He held a schollty hostage that he had no intention of using. Oh well he played his one game in UI, the chapter is now closed. We recovered with some pretty good recruiting classes and Sampson alienated an entire fan base.

I agree with that. He should have decommitted.

Sampson has alienated more than one fan base. I'm not to the point I was at the end of the Davis tenure when I stopped going to games or spending money on the program, but I'm saddened and embarrassed by what the program has turned into, on and off the court.

Gordon chose the right school. His drama queen controlling dad fits eight in with sampson.

Ha ha, wait, you're saying Sampson is a drama queen? Have you seen Weber's sideline preening or heard his press conference whining? Sampson may not have integrity, but he's not a drama queen. That would be Weber.

I would agree with this. Although I would like to say that I would much rather lose the right way than win how Samspon has.

Regarding Frazier's love tap to EJ, I heard that Chester did the exact same thing to Moore from Purdue. Sounds like part of his pregame routine more than anything.

His pregame thing should be getting McCamey's water ready. Being as McCamey is way better and all.

illiniguy I'm not saying you guys shouldn't think you'll be better going forward. You will. I just think some were going way overboard.

We will be a lot better than we are now. Thank god. I thikn most of the Big ten is going to get better. You guys definately upgraded coaches.

Apparently the Illinois athletic department has issued an apology for some of the fan behavior last night. Just caught the tail end of it on the news.

For what?

The Uconn game? If so, it has already been done. Several of the players did some PSA's that they played on the video board during the game.

What does it matter anyway? IU didn't make them issue a statement.
