Rematch of Texas in the Sweet 16 would be fantastic.

Definitely got to get the 1 seed in the West and play the first two games 20 miles away in Anaheim.

The West is still stacked. IU/Clemson, Texas/Pitt 2nd round games? I'd rather get that 3-seed in the Midwest instead of Wisconsin.

Wisconsin v. Penn St. tonight - should be a good test for the Badgers. Cornley and Claxton a formiddable duo, and they now have some players around them. Badgers will have to take advantage of their height and pound the ball down low.

Penn State can rebound, but they can't shoot foul shots, so Wiscy just needs to "hack-a-shaq" them and they'll win

Unless the Badgers are down towards the end of the game, they just don't foul. They are very sound fundamentally, don't reach, and move their feet. They play great man to man, position defense.

is the game on ESPN or BTN? I know it has a weird 9pm local start, which indicates it's probably a TV game

I hate them. Wisconsin has always been fundamentally sound. I think Bo Ryan could coach a team of walk-ons to 20 wins. Always a tough matchup for IU because they don't make mistakes.

Bo Ryan is the best coach in the conference. Wisconsin is superbly coached.

Interesting games for both 3-0 Big Ten teams this week. Wisconsin at Penn State tonight, and Indiana at Minnesota Thursday night. The Barn has been a veritable house of horrors for IU historically, and Tubby has had great success against the Hoosiers (though mostly against the incompetent Davis). This will be IU's toughest, most likely loss since playing Xavier. If either team moves to 4-0, they'll be ahead of the curve. Ohio State at Michigan State tonight is also a big game.

I've pretty much conceeded this game as a loss for IU for the reasons you stated. Looking at the schedule before the season, I would have said hope for 3 conference losses. Losing at MSU, Wisconsin and 1 of Minnesota, Purdue, Ohio St. would have been my best case scenario.

Notre Dame vs. Cincinnati tonight. IF (in capital letters) ND can win this game and split the two upcoming games at Georgetown and Villanova, they'll be 4-2 with no really tough road games left and have a very good chance at going at least 12-6 in the Big East, which would sew up a tourney berth. In my delusional mind I'd rather have 13-5 or 14-4 to up the seed and have a chance at winning the BET, but I'm not holding out much hope for that.

Minnesota really hasn't beaten anybody to date, unless you count Penn State, which didn't play very well. I think IU wins that game easy, D.J. White and Gordon will have big games.

Minnesota didn't win so much as Penn State lost. If Penn State shoots even 60% at the line, they win

Thats can be said for basically every Illinois loss.

I think IU fans would be worried about a game at Minnesota if they were playing a Minnesota middle school team. IU has been better than Minnesota most of the last 10-15 years, and yet they've been absolutely terrible up there. It's a really cool court, but it's just turned into a house of horrors for the Hoosiers, including a long pass that probably would have tied the game in OT smacking off of the scoreboard and going straight out of bounds a few years ago.

I'm convinced the lighting in that arena is horrible. IU can't seem to make shots there.

UCLA gets its first 09er in 5-star F Reeves Nelson from Modesto, CA. Great news with so many open scholies for 09. Watching the videos, he reminds me of Brockman.

I saw that kid play in the Sac-Joaquin Section D-V title game at Arco Arena last year as a sophomore. Dude was all over the court doing everything and was good at it also. Both my friend and I came away very impressed with him (we weren't there to see him, rather just a couple section title games and Modesto Christian happened to be playing).

EDIT: Holy crap. Just looked up that game on maxpreps and Reeves had 19 points, 19 rebounds and 8 assists in the game. WOW.

Soccer, I believe the Modesto Bee had a story up that Reeves tossed up 52 pts and 28 boards against some school called Hughson last Saturday. I'm guessing Hughson isn't exactly that great but still, very impressive.

Did a little searching and found this article and he actually had that big game against Clovis East. He only had 25-22-6 blocks against Hughson and it says for the season he's averaging 24 points, 18 rebounds, five assists and five blocks per game this year.

I'm guessing prep basketball isn't that great in the San Joaquin Valley.

or that he is doing what Garnett/Curry did, which was happen to be a 7 foot 18 year old in a league of 5'6" to 6' players

He's only 6'7" and 15 or 16. The San Joaquin Valley certainly doesn't have the quality of basketball talent that Chicago does.

Posted
6'7" at age 16 is still huge for high school. My high school had over 1000 kids (grades 9-12) and maybe 2 guys were over 6'4", and one played volleyball instead of basketball.

Part of it is that basketball isn't that great down in his area plus the fact that Modesto Christian plays in either D-IV or D-V every year (last year the latter but this year the former) and the teams they play in league generally aren't that great. The thing that Modesto Christian does, and has always done, is schedule some very good non-conference games and tournaments to help even things out. While many teams prefer to stay local to play teams, Modesto Christian doesn't. So while I'm sure he has piled up some stats against weak competition, it's not like MC has loaded up against a bunch of chumps.

Badgers are man handling Penn State. Claxton left hurt

yeah solid first half for psu, getting rolled at home and their best player might've blown out his knee. they probably have about 1 or 2 big 11 wins left this year.

SIU gets their first road win of the year tonight over Evansville. We started out the game with a 15-0 run and had a lead of 24-4 at one point. Not sure where that was during the other road games we've had this year.

Wichita State is next on Saturday at home. A win puts us right back at .500 and in the midst of the leaders in the Valley.
