Mike and Mike brought up an interesting point this morning:

 

Since the Cubs have to win 3 straight now anyways, would it be better to let Z pitch Game 5 against Webb rather than pitch on 3 days rest in Game 4? In other words, you have to assume you're getting to Game 5 if you think you can win the series, so wouldn't you want your best pitcher in that game? At this point, all three games are elimination games, so shouldn't Lou make his pitching matchups work to his best advantage?

 

your choices then are: Zambrano on three days rest and Lilly on normal rest or marquis on 11 days rest (or whatever) and Zambrano on 5 days rest. I think I go with the first.

I wouldn't bench Ramirez and Soriano, but I'd strongly consider starting Ward over Lee in this game.

 

Hopefully he shuts me up and goes 5 for 5 tomorrow. And you know what? We're winning this game.

I got all pumped when I scored tickets to this series. Then the Cubs couldn't beat the Marlins, and I started worrying that they wouldn't make the post-season. Now they're about to get swept out before my game. Whoever's coming out to Wrigleyville tomorrow could see me cry like a girl if this thing ends now.

In 04 when Boston was down 0-3 to the Yankees, Kevin Millar was talking to someone before game 4 and said something to the effect of, "Don't let us win tonight. We win tonight, then tomorrow we have Pedro, then Schilling, then who knows what can happen in game 7...Better not let us win tonight." All we have to do is get to game 5, then who knows what will happen. We have who I think are our two best pitchers the next two days. We'd have to face Webb, but anything can happen in game 5, we just have to get there. We're still going to do this.
