Ok soap-droppers. The pressure isn't on you anymore. We know your not going to win. So just go out there and give us an enjoyable game of baseball. I don't care if you win (ok, I do because I have game 4 tickets), I just want to not be disgusted watching you play.

So...

-STOP SWINGING AT PITCHES IN THE DIRT

-STOP GETTING BEHIND 2-0 AND 3-1 TO EVERY HITTER

-STOP $%#( GIVING UP HITS TO AUGIE OJEDA HE SUCKS

-GET A [expletive] HIT "BIG 3"

-SAVE US GEOVANY SOTO

Oh, what's the use? Have a nice winter everyone.

Yesterday I was a nervous wreck because I knew they were going to lose and I'd have to fly to Chicago with this dumb team down 0-2.

That being reality, I'm oddly enough very optimistic. We have nothing else to lose so what else is there to be?

Hopefully Wrigley can rejuvenate this dumb team and some combination of Sori, Lee and Aramis can get their bats going. I think Rich actually gives us a solid game.

Let me see Carlos in Wrigley, Cubs.

ALSO: I would want them to win it AZ over Chicago at this point anyway, I freaking hate those horrible fans and that even worse stadium (worst stadium music of perhaps all time). I can only hope we have a chance to fly back there and tell them all to piss off.

i'll be making some homemade mac and cheese before saturday's game. i got it off the front page of yahoo! a few days ago. if you're familiar with yahoo!, you know what i'm talking about.

with that said, please win saturday and sunday. there's no better feeling to have than butterflies in the stomach on your 25th birthday when the cubs and dbacks are battling it out in game 5 at arizona. something i have been looking forward to for years now...a cubs playoff win on my birthday. for that to happen, though, these goofballs need to win this weekend.

in the words of captain jean-luc picard of the USS enterprise...

make it so.

Per some dumb ESPN.com article by Jim Caple:

Piniella was in a similar position in 1995 when he managed Seattle and the Mariners lost the first two games of their Division Series at Yankee Stadium. As no Seattle fan will ever forget, the Mariners came back to win that series by taking the next three games at the Kingdome. Due to a change in format since then, this year's Game 5 would be back here in Arizona.

I was not aware he had actually pulled it off before.

Just food for thought.

For whatever reason I think we can pull this off. Or at least force a game 5. I think Hill is going to pitch a gem and that will relax this whole team.

well, since you've been right about everything else...

Zambrano's sparkling diamond didn't help.

LOL! Dick. Gotta be right about something.

It's sad that we're in this hole, because we're in such a great spot re: the next two games. Livan Hernandez and Micah Owings? In Wrigley vs. Rich Hill and Z? Those are mismatches in our favor. All we needed was one of the first 2 and we'd be in fine shape. It's just so frustrating that we blew it like we did.

Dick Mountain will bring us to the promised land.

Mike and Mike brought up an interesting point this morning:

Since the Cubs have to win 3 straight now anyways, would it be better to let Z pitch Game 5 against Webb rather than pitch on 3 days rest in Game 4? In other words, you have to assume you're getting to Game 5 if you think you can win the series, so wouldn't you want your best pitcher in that game? At this point, all three games are elimination games, so shouldn't Lou make his pitching matchups work to his best advantage?

No, you can't think ahead to game 5. You have to concentrate on one game and one game only. You will figure out to do for game 5 when you get to game 5. Thinking ahead already potentially screwed us once this series.

well since they're all elimination games, why not throw Z on 2 days rest in Game 3? It makes as much sense as pitching him Game 4. I understood the idea of pitching him Game 4 if we were up 2-1 and it could clinch the series at home. At this point, we'd be going back to Arizona regardless of who pitches (assuming we get it to Game 5). Who would you rather have going in Game 5, Z on full rest or Lilly on short rest?

I agree...Do everything you can to get there and hope for the best.

Lilly would be on normal rest. Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon. We have a better chance of winning game 5 if we get there, we should definitely pitch Z in game 4, imo.

Please just freaking win. If they can win two at home the pressue will fall heavily on the DBacks. It could be like 2003 vs. the Marlins, only we'll be on the other side.

I am so disgusted by last night's effort!

Nothing against UMFan, but since we're facing elimination, shouldn't bhogg get the start? Or is he still in Florida?

I'm furious right now. I cannot believe the pathetic display this team has put on thus far in the playoffs. I really hope Lou breaks his foot off in somebodies ass today.

And what makes me even more furious--I still have hope! What the hell!? Why!? Why do I do this to myself!?

I think we win both games at wrigley and then all the sudden we go back to Arizona thinking OMG I DONT CARE HOW WE STARTED, WE ONLY HAVE TO WIN ONE GAME AND WE'RE IN THE NLCS. And we'll lose.

Because the Cubs should beat the Diamondbacks in both games at Wrigley. They won't, but they should.

It seems almost inevitable that the Cubs will win games 3 and 4, and then lose in 5, becoming the first team down 2-0 to force a game 5 and lose.
