Cubs in 4. No disrespect to the DBacks, I think they are a good team and deserve to be here, but I just like the Cubs matchups in the next 3 games too much.

Optimism (actually realism) from UMFan... What the hell is going on?

But yea... I like our matchups, except a potential Webb and Z on 3 days rest on Sunday...

Normally I'd be pessimistic after last night, and I started to be...but I said before the series started that we would lose game 1 and win the next 3, and I'm sticking to it.

Also one thing to note is that Webb has never gone on short rest in his career. Actually, I'd prefer him to go on Sunday. If he beats the Cubs, then game 5 would be Lilly vs. Owings.

Good point. I was just thinking along the lines that as a good sinkerballer, he'd be less effected by the short rest.

My logic was that if being too strong hurts them sometimes (start getting the ball up and crap), maybe being a little too tired at least wouldn't hurt them too much.

same as what i predicted originally - d'backs in 5

Yes, unfortunately I probably agree with you (have been doing that alot lately).

If we were to play some juggernaut team in this series, we'd probably destroy them. But because the Diamondbacks are a bunch of no hitting mouth breathers, they'll own us in a horribly painful and CLOSE scoring series.

Truth be told, the Diamondbacks will beat us because they are the luckiest team in baseball right now and we are....well, the Cubs.

While the Cubs are definitely still in it, they have to take 3 of 4. That means (correct my questionable math if I'm wrong), in order to have an even chance of winning the series, they'd have to be three times better than the D'Backs. They're not. The advantage definitely lies with Arizona (I'm still optimistic, though!).

Huh?? Is that fuzzy math?

Not to be negative, but I am a cubs fan, where did anyone figure we were going to win in AZ at all?

1. Webb is a good pitcher and has a good record against the Cubs

2. Home field advantage AZ.

3. Best record in national league and second best at home.

4. Their division race was tight with three teams making a better playoff mindset

3. Davis winning record against the Cubs and great era against our bigger hitters.

4. Lily a fly ball pitcher in a flyout of the park stadium.

5. They swept the Cubs earlier and this has given them a lot of confidence.

6. The Cubs are showing up with the offense we have all grown to loathe. When they are in this mode we usually go in streaks with it.

7. Their BP is not shabby esp. Lyons and crazy eyes.

Maybe if we take a day to regroup the "other Cubs Team" will show up

i expected the cubs to win in four, but unfortunately i didn't factor in the cubs' veteran millionaires crapping down their legs all series like a bunch of cowards.

Just to clarify, they took two of three from the Cubs twice. The Cubs were swept by Florida twice and Houston twice, although one of those was in a 3 games series that was shortened to two and the Cubs won the makeup game. But your points still stand.

Oh my god, could it be? I actually, just for a second or two, got hit with a wave of optimism that the Cubs would actually win the next two and force a 5th game.

Damn, why can't they leave me alone? Why must I go through this torture?

AZ winning Game 1 gave them way too much confidence.

I suppose if they can win Game 3, they'll probably win Game 4.

But winning Game 3 to me is really unlikely. If they fall behind at any point in the game they're screwed.

That's because, as we all know, the Cubs just don't have enough grit.

It was grit all along. Lack of grittiness. Neifi would know what to do.
