I work until 5 on Wed and till 8 on Thurs, so I hope the Cubs have both of the late games out west.

Stupid job. I was supposed to have Wednesday off, too.

They have to have the late games. Arizona is the only Western time zone team hosting playoff games until the weekend.

Am I the only one that doesn't care that they're a 90 win team? Big deal. Do you really think that our team, as currently constructed, wouldnt win 90 games if we started over? We would.

yeah .. for all the heartburn they give me, the cubs have had a pretty good 2/3rds of a season. since early june -- over the last 100 games or so -- they're playing at a 0.575ish clip, good for about 93 wins over the course of 162 games.

Yep. And that's while having missed Soriano (which coincided with the one major stumble they had during that stretch) for 3 weeks.

So who has the potential to be the Steve Garvey/Will Clark/Rodriguez for the Diamondbacks?

Chris Young, Eric Byrnes, Stephen Drew, Conor Jackson, Augie Ojeda, Justin Upton, Chad Tracy, Chris Snyder...

Yeah, I have no idea how they produce offense.

Of course, now that I say that, it'll probably be Chris Young that kills the Cubs.

Holy heck bukie...ones bad enough!

I hope Arizona plays tight but I have this weird feeling it'll be the Cubs that do so instead.

Stephen Drew. Already hate the guy for some reason, and he certainly has breakout superstar potential, so yeah him.

I think his point was that none of those guys are huge cause for concern. ;)

But it's a short series and obviously anyone can come up big.

My vote is Augie. Or not.

Well I hope he breaks out with acne instead of hitting 550!

That'd be a shame. Larry should know how to have his pitchers pitch to Chris Young by now.

You can tell them Raisin but Larry can't put the ball in those spots.

My thoughts:

I don't see any way this series isn't the late game every night. Aside from the fact that you can't have the West Coast game as the early start, the fact that it's the Cubs means that MLB will do everything they can to max out the ratings for the NLDS. At worst, we'd end up being the 7:30 start once and the 9:30 start once. I'll be right pissed if they end up playing while I'm still at work.

I think Eric Byrnes and Chris Young are the guys we have to watch out for. I think Kendall will end up starting Game 1, so we need to keep their faster players off base.

I feel good about Z or Lilly winning one of the first two. I think this series goes at least 4. I also think PingHitter's scouting report is dead on. Attack Webb early, and wait Davis and Hernandez out.

Every game, at least two of the Big 3 need to produce.

Honestly, as much of a draw the Cubs are, the Boston-Los Angeles matchup has to be a better priority for the networks to get on prime time TV. One of the biggest fan bases against a team that plays in the vicinity of the second largest market in the US. The Cubs are a great draw, but a DBacks team with limited star power and limited fan appeal will not be quite the demand that many are expecting.

I wouldn't be surprised to be the 4PM game on Wednesday (2 PM in Arizona)

Technically speaking, Anaheim is in the second largest market, not in the vicinity of it (as much as Angelenos hate Orange County).

They're on different networks, though. Wouldn't TBS want their best drawing matchup on at prime time?

funny .. 12 pages and no mention of the fact of froemming's crew (potentially) calling balls and strikes.

Oh boy.,..

if I'm not mistaken, it's not Froemmings 'crew.' I think all the post season umpires are 'all-star' lineups of umpires. I also think that they only work one series, so if we get him in the NLDS, we won't see him in the NLCS if we get there.

that being said, if we get a steady diet of Froemming, Reilly, Tschida, Reliford, etc., I will be extremely pissed.

He's already tried.

Is Marquis gonna make the roster?

It depends how many starters the Cubs go with. If they go with 4 starters, Marquis will certainly make it. If they go with 3, then they probably leave him off in favor of another reliever.

I think he's gonna make it, and we're going to be in that game thread just freaking out like madmen when he pitches.

Good times.

I'm pretty bad at predicting rosters, but I would have to think the Cubs will have Marquis on the roster if for no other reason than that he is signed here for two more years. Lst year he was pretty pissed at being left off the Cards roster.

If the Cubs leave him off the playoff roster they might as well release him.
