Yeah. Wood was the only pitcher on the staff with an ERA+ over 100.

Having said that, Tapani's ERA that year is a little misleading because he had games in which he allowed 7, 8, and 9 earned runs.

This is my biggest pet peeve in the stat world. All pitchers look better if you take out their worst starts.

yeah jjg, my memory is foggy. The 98 team was basicly Sammy and Wood. I should never really coment about anything that happened further in the past than yesterday, thats how bad my memory is. 03 is the only team really fresh enough for me to even remember the rotation. Id have to think really hard to remember the 89 roster... hmmm Mitch Williams, Jeff Pico? Salazar?... Wasnt Damon Berryhill on that team? Grace, Sandberg, Dawson, I remember very little about the starting pitching, I think Maddux was there and Sutcliff? mmm Jerome Walton and Dwight Smith hahaha those were the days. Ok Im smelling smoke, better stop before I burn something out.

Ohhh i hope so

That gives me just enough time to either come home or go up to wrigley after class on thursday and watch the game.

Does anyone know if there will be any non-bar hangouts in wrigleyville to watch games? or am I just better off hanging in my dorm and watching?

I don't buy it. It doesn't make sense for anyone other than the Cubs/Dbacks to play the late game on Thursday night. That's the only game that could be hosted at a reasonable local time. I don't think it's realistic for a game to start at 10:30 local time. I imagine there would be curfew issues preventing such a start time.

Arizona scares me because it seems like we never play well against them. That could be my crappy memory playing tricks on me, though.

Everything about this series scares me. A team we never play well against that's overperformed their Pythagorean, has a negative run differential, ranks last in several offensive categories and has one legitimately good pitcher. The better the matchup looks on paper, the more I worry. It's the way this team goes.

What evil lurks in the hearts of MLB playoff schedule makers? The Shadow knows!

My unofficial insider information (none really, just my best guess based on previous years) tells me that it will be the two late games.

That is not good. I have to work at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and 6 on Thursday which means I would have to miss the last half of both games. Can we switch the game times? Because that would work much better.

Am I the only one that doesn't care that they're a 90 win team? Big deal. Do you really think that our team, as currently constructed, wouldnt win 90 games if we started over? We would.

yeah .. for all the heartburn they give me, the cubs have had a pretty good 2/3rds of a season. since early june -- over the last 100 games or so -- they're playing at a 0.575ish clip, good for about 93 wins over the course of 162 games.

I disagree, because I don't think I would feel any more comfortable playing the Phils or the Pads/Rockies. I don't think there's that powerful veteran presence on the DBacks that scares me, other than Webb. But the hitting lineup seems to me it's full of young guys who haven't been here before.

The Phils -- I don't want to face Rollins right now, or really that team, at all. The Pads have the pitching to shut down anyone, and the Rockies hit the snot out of the ball like the Phillies.

The fact that the DBacks have 90 wins means nothing. That's good enough to have you sitting at home some seasons. No team in the NL is without vulnerability.

Something to keep an eye on. Per Rotoworld:

Justin Upton may need X-rays of his left wrist which was hit by a 96 mph fastball on Sunday.

"Right now, we're just playing it by ear," Upton said, his wrist wrapped with ice. "Whatever happens, we'll talk some more tomorrow." Upton thinks he will be fine for the NLDS, but if he is unable to go the D-Backs will likely use Carlos Quentin to take his spot on the 25-man roster.
