Gosh damn it. You've gotta be kidding me if we miss going to Fenway yet again. I want to play there.

Reading further down in that thread, it appears the Cubs will be denied a series at Fenway so that the Diamondbacks can play a series in Boston.

Am I the only one who has difficulty believing that Diamondbacks-Red Sox would be a bigger sell than Cubs-Red Sox?

Plus the D'Backs just played the Sox this year... that can't be right

For some reason, I always enjoy looking for these. Maybe because teams release them seperately and you have to piece it together. Either way, the first team I found a schedule for was the Detroit Tigers (home only). If you find others, especially those pertaining to the Cubs, post them here.

http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/schedule/tentative.jsp?c_id=det&year=2008

The Tigers will not play the Cubs at home next year, but they will take on the Cardinals

Good. Hopefully the Cubs get KC instead. I'm always irritated that the Cards get 2 series against KC each year.

The Cards do not play KC twice each year. That is a well spread myth. They do play in KC every year, but not vice versa.

And they aren't the easiest games in the world. KC really gets up for those games.

They have 4 of the last 6 years. Not sure why they didn't in 04 and 05...thought KC was their "natural rivals"...blech.

In any case, here's the Cards records since 2002 against the Royals (494-577 since 2002):

3-3

4-2

2-1

3-0

3-3

5-1

Total

20-10

Now, the Cubs vs the Sox (507-459 since 2002):

5-1

2-4

3-3

4-2

2-4

3-3

Total

19-17

I'm not a huge fan of the unbalanced schedule, but if you're gonna do it, at least have it be a rotation. I hate the "rivalry" matchups. Wouldn't Cubs-Sox be a ton more special if it was a series or 2 every 3 years?

(The 2002 date was just arbitrary because I was using ESPN and that's as far back as they have schedules)

I agree that the schedule sucks. And yes the rivalries would be better every couple years. I'll never believe that Florida / Tampa Bay is a rivalry.

I understand why you chose 2002. And yes 20-10 is a good record. Over 6 years that averages what 3.33 wins and 1.67 losses. The Cubs basically 3-3 every year. The the advantage over this time period is about a game in the standings per year - holding everything else constant.

By they way - the Cards have been pretty good during that timeframe. Considerably better than any of CHC, CWS, or KC. Their records versus anybody would look good, wouldn't they?

If you want to start an unbalanced schedule argument, you should start with the NL East and NL West teams complaining about the Cards, Cubs, Astros getting to play the Brewers, Reds and Pirates 54 times per year - or 1/3 of their seasons.

yes, there are years where the Cardinals get similarly predictable cellar dwellars like Texas or Tampa instead of the second match up with the Royals.

the Cubs-White Sox series come close to and often exceed the intensity of Cubs-Cards series. can the same be said for Cards-Royals? seriously, look up some of the things White Sox players say about playing the Cubs. I highly doubt you will find any such vitriol coming from KC on an annual basis.

you guys get a break with your interleague 'rivalry' being one of the worst teams in baseball. chalk it up as a break, and move on. defending it in any way, shape, or form is just silly.

So now it's not only KC, but the other interleague draw as well.

Since you brought it up, this year the Cards played Anaheim and at Detroit, again. Neither appeared on the Cubs schedule. The Cubs did get the Rangers for three and the crappy WhiteSox for six. The Cards did not get either of those teams.

You can find schedule imbalances every year - and not just interleague. Any attempt to make an argument that one team has an annual advantage by looking at only 3-6 out of 162 game schedule is BEYOND silly.

And the verbal warfare in the papers is quite irrelevant.

don't give me that crap. you tried to state that the Cards don't get a break with drawing the Royals on a consistent basis. they pretty much do. there's been two seasons where they haven't, and they just happened to get a different patsy in each of those years. congrats on a year where your interleague matchups were easier than the Cubs. I think this makes two in about a dozen years or so of interleague play.

whether its a one game advantage, a three game advantage, or a six game advantage, I don't give a damn. it's still an advantage. maybe it hasn't made a difference, but maybe one of these years it will, and it would be a damn shame if, all other things being equal, the division came down to the Cubs going 3-3 against a damn good White Sox team while the Cards go 5-1 against the usually crappy Royals...or the Cubs going 4-2 against the Yankees/DRays while the Cards went 2-4 against the Yankees/RedSox.

the verbal warfare in the papers is quite relevant as you also tried to diminish how fortunate the Cards are to draw the Royals by stating how heated the rivalry is for them. the verbal warfare in the papers is the evidence of how fired up the White Sox get to face the Cubs. we know what a fired up interleague rival looks and sound like. I really don't think you do.

edit-one last thing...the Cubs only got 4 interleague series this year. they got extra games against the Braves and Padres to make up for it. so let's stop implying that we got a break this year. the break, if any, is the difference between the A's and the Rangers.

I'm not saying this at all. I'm saying that the schedule is different all the way around, that looking at 3 or 6 games vs KC vs the other 159 or 156 is very shortsighted. There are schedule imbalances everywhere.

whether its a one game advantage, a three game advantage, or a six game advantage, I don't give a damn. it's still an advantage. maybe it hasn't made a difference, but maybe one of these years it will, and it would be a damn shame if, all other things being equal, the division came down to the Cubs going 3-3 against a damn good White Sox team while the Cards go 5-1 against the usually crappy Royals...or the Cubs going 4-2 against the Yankees/DRays while the Cards went 2-4 against the Yankees/RedSox.

the white sox are damn good? And come on, in 2003 the Cards went to Yankee stadium and Fenway, hosted Baltimore and Toronto. Cubs got Tampa Bay. These things change every year. Oh by the way, in 2003 the Cubs beat the Cards by, you guessed it, 3 games. So there, the closest race between the Cubs and Cards since 2002, and the interleague schedule benefited the Cubs. If you click over to the AL standings, you'll see the Royals finished only 3 games behing the "Damn good" WhiteSox.

why is it that the rivalry for the Cubs / White Sox counts, but STL / KC doesn't? They did play in a world series, and there is quite a bit of bitterness both ways. You are picking and choosing what you feel is important.

you are making my point for me. the schedule is imbalanced everywhere. It's not just KC vs CWS, it's not just Cubs vs. Cardinals. It's everywhere.

Wait wait wait.

We're complaining that the Cards get six against KC. And we're complainign that we MISS the Red Sox.

Missing three against the Red Sox is a GOOD thing.

I wouldn't mind one marquee series against a team like Boston if the other opponents are the likes of Baltimore and Tampa Bay, personally.

tampa is really very very close to putting together a very nasty team...don't be so quick to overlook them

If you want to start an unbalanced schedule argument, you should start with the NL East and NL West teams complaining about the Cards, Cubs, Astros getting to play the Brewers, Reds and Pirates 54 times per year - or 1/3 of their seasons.

Sure but all sports have bad divisions that boost the record of other teams. Heck the main three have bad CONFERENCES...the NFC, NL, and Eastern Conference are all bad, and so the "good" teams in those conferences have a natural advantage.

My problem is more that there isn't an even schedule for teams in the same division. Part of that is a function of interleague. Part of it is a 6 team division. In any case, it's a pet peeve that I'd like to see fixed.

I'd like to see a 28 team division and the Yanks and Red Sox in the other.

Cubs won't play the Yankees in interleague play: link. The Yankees will play Houston, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and San Diego in interleague play.

Cubs will be in Tampa-St. Pete in June:

St. Petersburg Times[/url]"]CUBS COMING!, CUBS COMING!: The initial draft of the 2008 schedule has big news: the first-ever Trop trip by the Cubs (and the return of Lou Piniella) in June. Tentatively, the Rays open at Baltimore, host Seattle in their home opener and make their first visit to St. Louis.

The Cubs travel to Phoenix July 21 - 23 according to the Diamondbacks' tentative home schedule.

The Cubs are in Philadelphia on April 10 - 13. The Phillies are at Wrigley August 28-31.

The Cubs are in San Francisco June 30 - July 3 according to their tentative home schedule.

Oh, and the Red Sox and A's will open the MLB season in Japan for one game before flying back to Oakland to finish the series (don't know why it's the A's and not the Mariners...I guess Daisuke and Okajima are enough big names).

I remember growing up it was so nice. NL, 6 teams per division. Play your 5 18 times each, the 6 from the other division 12 times each. 90+72 = 162.

AL, 7 teams per division. Play your 6 13 times each, the 7 from the other division 12 times each. 78 + 84 = 162. Of course, the complaint then was in the AL you played more games vs. the other division than your own, but not per team.

Cubs in Philly at the end of week 1, I bet anything that they've got us on the road for a week straight to start like always.

This is ridiculous. To my knowledge there are 3 interleague scenarios that the Cubs haven't been involved in: @ Tampa Bay, vs. Baltimore, and @ Boston. We had the chance to knock them all out, but we won't. The most intriguing matchup won't happen. I'm disgusted.

Anyways I'm going to update the first post with tentative matchups

Found Cinci's home schedule and WE DON'T OPEN AGAINST THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look at the first page of this thread for what I've got so far.

Please please please send the Cubs to Kaufmann.

:(

Is it for sure not going to happen? I'd love it if they played a weekend series in KC. Absolutely love it.
