Geez, this is actually scaring me. All freaking year we wait for the Cubs to hit HRs. We had a stretch where we didnt hit a HR in 8 straight games. I guess we were saving them all for September??

Why should this scare you? Isn't this the best time to hit home runs?

Anything that inspires confidence or any manner of getting hopes up at this time of year is scary. I'm freaking terrified right now.

Uh, interesting time to bring in Marmol, to say the least.

He was already warm before Soriano hit the HR.

He shouldn't go more than 1 inning assuming he holds the lead.

Its just strange because guys like Eyre and Wood go days at a time without playing, and Marmol seems to go every freaking day.

Well, he's their best reliever so your more likely to see him.

I know it has been said many times, but my God... Marmol's stuff is so nasty. I love watching him pitch.

It's like he's pitching with a wiffleball. It's crazy how much movement he gets on that slider.

I'm fine with Rich being taken out. Especially now that the Cubs have extended their lead.

Get through this inning and you have many options to finish the game, and moreso if the Cubs can tack on a few more.

Hill got pulled too early, Marmol in to protect a 4-run lead. I really don't get this, Lou.

Lou can't predict Soriano would hit another HR.

marmol was warm to come in with a 2 run lead.

What in the hell is with this ump? Did he lose a bet and now he has to act like a [expletive] for the day or what?

I'm not a fan of pulling Rich this early.

I think its just a case of being cautious with him. It was obviouls something was up in his last start.

He gave good five innings and left with a 4-run lead.

I'm not talking about players in general though, I'm talking about one player. So yes, when you have one player who's been at the same level for four years, it's a perfectly fine sample size.

You don't need to look at 100 years worth of data to find something out about one guy.

There you go, Jacque.

Edit: Jacque? Wow, not sure where that came from.

This is completely your opinion and miles and miles away from being fact.

How? If you know that Ramirez was good with RISP in 2004, good with RISP in 2005, good with RISP in 2006, and good with RISP in 2007, you're telling me that you can't logically conclude that he'll be good with RISP in 2008?

While I do agree with that statement (we can't logically conclude that at all), what I'm really telling you is that you can't just arbitrarily conclude what a good sample size is.

So what sort of sample size would you like to see? How many years must Aramis do well with RISP before you're fine with the sample size to say that it's not just random?

He could do it all his career and I would still consider it a statistical anomaly rather than choosing to believe he has some mythical trait that has been shown over and over again to be non-existent.

By your logic, you could've pretty much concluded the same thing about David Ortiz's close and late stats coming into this season.

Aramis is a great hitter. Period. That's why he's great in clutch situations. He's just a flat out great hitter.

You choose to believe that he's clutch. That's fine. I don't. I choose to believe that he's a great hitter that you can logically expect to hit well in all situations. Neither one of us is going to convince the other.
