Lou just mentioned that Trachsel will be pitching this coming Thursday. What?!?!?

Son of a.....

If he'd be pitching in long relief if the game is decided, sure. If he's starting, Lou needs a kick in the butt.

If things keep going like they are going, Thursday might not be all that important.

You can't hang your hat on that, though. We don't have anything won yet.

looks like i missed a wild one today

just a minor understatement there :P

well you know things are going well when your starter gets shelled and you still win by 5

Somebody call the Waaaaaaahhhhhmbulance for Brewers fan.

Doofus on the WGN postgame show just had to mention '04. Not cool man. Not cool.

'04. Bartman. Buckner. Black cat. Goat. Curse. 98 years.

The closer the Cubs get, the more you can expect it. It all comes with the territory. The monkey on this organization's back is ginormous.

Buckner?

Hey whiny Brewer fan,

How many games has Prince Fielder missed this year due to injuries? How about Ryan Braun? Sure doesn't hurt to have your best hitters not have to spend a month on the DL and, in Rammy's case, have a nagging injury that forces him to have periodic days off to keep him relatively healthy.

It also sure is unlucky for the Brewers to call up Ryan Braun in the last week of May only to see him hit 31 home runs in 3.5 months. Not a big deal. I mean, it's only a pace for 49 home runs on the year.

You also have a career year out of Prince Fielder.

J.J. Hardy had 25 home runs in 1253 PA's in his minor league career and he's got 25 in 592 PA's with the Brewers this year.

And boy are the Cubs lucky that Carlos Zambrano has put up his worst ERA in his six years as a starter this year.

And as for single game breaks? How about Rickie Weeks going Albert Pujols on Brad Lidge the other day? Yeah, I know Houston still won the game, but that thing shouldn't have gone into the tenth inning.

It's not the Cubs' fault that your team can't win a road series if their lives depended on it. The Brewers are 31-47 on the road this year which is tied with the Giants for 6th worst road record in the majors. All of the teams with road records as bad or worse than the Brewers are at least 13 games under .500 (Texas is the best at 70-83).

Your team blew an 8.5 game lead in a little over 5 weeks.

EDIT: And the Cubs sure got lucky that they were stupid enough to leave their best catcher in AAA until September. Lucky us.

You also missed the amazingness that is Soto. 2R tater and just looked very comfortable behind the plate...threw out a runner at 2nd and made sick snap throw to 1B later.

He couldn't have hit that pitch with Geo's penis. He missed that by a mile.

Ok EJ can I sig this?Seriously?

Sure. I was drunk on Geo at the time.

If you're going to do it, Keener, you have to put all three of these lines in the sig.

I have had enough of this BS. The Cubs have had a horseshoe up their you know what's for the past week and a half now. This is so unbelievably disgusting it's nauseating. Since Cubs fans will be reading this, I will recap for them just how they have gotten all the breaks lately.

Wednesday, September 12th @ Houston- Cubs lead 3-1 entering the 9th Astros get 1 back on a run scoring Triple by Mike Lamb with 0 out. With the score 3-2 and the tying run on 3rd, the Cubs get a lame groundout to the left side of the infield that doesn't score the run. A Walk to Palmiero puts runners on 1st and 3rd. Dempster then proceeds to get a ground ball that is bobbled but recovered in time to turn the game ending DP. If Munson beats the throw, the game is tied and the outcome could've been completely different. No, it was not just making good pitches from Dempster, it was a VERY fortuitous bounce that the bobble was recovered just in time to turn the DP. Cubs win 3-2.

Friday, September 14th @STL- StL trails 2-1 in the top of the 9th. Jason Isringhausen enters the game with the bases loaded and Daryl Ward PH. Isringhausen makes 1 mistake and Ward clears the bases with a Triple to put the Cubs up 5-1. Prior to this game Izzy had only allowed 2 ER in his last 10 appearances. Cardinals get two HR's in the bottom of the 9th that would've been the game winner(s). The Cards then proceed to load the bases with two outs trailing 5-3 and Aaron Miles in a key spot swings at the 1st pitch and grounds out to end the game. Thanks Aaron!! Cubs win 5-3.

Saturday, September 15th @ STL- 1st game of a DH. Braden Looper absolutely baffled the Cubs for 7 innings. Leaving the game having retired 17 straight. Cards up 2-1 going to the 8th. Ryan Franklin comes in for the Cards and Walks Cliff Floyd(after a VERY questionable pitch called for Ball 3). He goes 3-2 to Alfonso Soriano, and then serves up a 2 run homer. After being baffled all game long by Looper, they hit one pitch and win the game 3-2.

Wednesday September 19th vs. Cincy-maybe the turning point of the season. Reds Cubs tied 2-2 and the Reds have a Norris Hopper on 2nd and two out. Encarnacion hits a pretty soft single to Left and the Reds inexplicable send Hopper around to try to score. Soriano makes perhaps the easiest throw to home he'll ever make the rest of his career to get Hopper by 50 ft at home. Of course, the Cubs score next inning and win the game 3-2.

It's the Cubs year apparently because they aren't NEARLY as talented as the Brewers, yet they will probably win the division and go to the post season thanks in large part to a lot of fortuitous bounces the last couple of months.

I think this quote from their board is much better:

Hey give the cubs credit they go out an win aganist bad ball clubs where the brewers lose to back to back minor league pitchers. and let not forget the brewers road record wich is anpther reason why the Cubs will walk away this division by Tues.

apparently they have no concept of grammar over there

I love the whining by the Brewers. I bet we could go back to April and May when they went like 10000-5 in the first two months and point out a bunch of games when they got lucky too. Whine all you want, I'll take being lucky if it gets into the playoffs!

Cubs

Pirates (2) 1-1 at worst

Marlins (3) 2-1

Reds (3) 2-1

If we go 5-3 final record 86-76

Brewers

Braves (3) 1-2 possible 0-3 Hudson, Smoltz, jo jo reyes (vs sheets but maybe not) They may have to make a spot start with someone

Cards (3) 2-1 possible 1-2

Padres (4) 2-2 at best

If they go 5-5 or even 6-4 They are only at 83 or 84 wins.

If we go 5-3

They must go 8-2 in their final 10 to get to 86 wins 7-3 to get to 85. So even if we split our final 8 games it will be a tough task for them to accomplish with the schedule they have. But I say lets just go 5-0 in our next 2 vs pirates and 3 vs marlins and take all the doubt out of the final series with the stupid reds.

Grammar and biased rants aside, it's really not a bad group over there. I've lurked for a few months now and posted a couple times, and posts of this mentality are in the minority over there.

Just sayin.

When it came down to the bullpens I knew the Cubs were going to win, the biggest difference maker between the Cubs and Brewers hasn't been luck. Its been pitching - there's nothing lucky about good pitching.

And today the Pirates made some blunders too. But here's a common thread that runs through the teams mentioned - they're bad. Bad teams are bad for a reason. They'll get poor hitting, lousy pitching, and questionable coaching.

I also note that he neglects to mention that the Astros' rally on 9/12 was started when a routine ground ball out to Lee deflected off first base and into right field.
