outside of OU and LSU, most of the top 25 was less than inspiring this week. Auburn, Georgia, and Boise St. go down, many had scares of one sort or another (UW, Louisville, Cal, Hawaii, Nebraska, A&M), even those who won by healthy margins played a half of lousy football (WVU, Florida, Texas, Tennessee, UCLA).

craptacular week there.

how's about not sucking so bad against the bloody Citadel next week Badgers.

The Citadel put up 76 points on Webber today. Better watch out. :D

The team formerly known as The Pathetic Losers From Davis actually won today - a 26-17 victory over Portland State. While I am still very bitter about last week's loss, I will remove the tag I have given them.

Davis High or UCDavis?

UCD.

On another note, does anyone else think Georgia is one of the consistently overrated teams in the past few years? I'm not saying they've been massively overrated, but they always seem to have some pub going into the season but lose one or two games they have no business losing.

Recently, I suppose so. I didn't think much of Georgia last year, but they were impressive in their last several games and salvaged a good season out of what could have been a nightmare. For that reason, and considering they had a lot of young players at key positions that were sure to improve, I was pretty high on Georgia this season. Right now I'm not sure whether I overrated them or should have given South Carolina more credit. Georgia sure does seem prone to disappearing offense, though.

The offense tends to dissapear sometimes because they're so young. Matthew Stafford (QB) is just a sophomore, their top receiver (Mohammed Mossaquoi) is playing his second full year, and they're relying heavily on a relatively new offensive line and a freshman getting a lot of playing time at tailback (Knowshon Moreno).

The Bulldogs will have their ups and downs this year - they're still young but extremely talented. Watch out next year, though, they'll be part of a much improved SEC East.

Not to make excuses for Tennessee, but Southern Miss played a terrific first half. Damion Fletcher is a very good tailback and Jeremy Young simply didn't make any mistakes in the first half.

Southern Miss has a good first string - they're problem is that they have little quality depth. The game went about like I expected, they kept it close until our superior depth started making a difference.

But, if we play Florida like we did Cal or the first half today, we won't win the game.

I know that there are a lot of big ten defenders on here but I really dont see how anyone can say that the Big Ten is any better then the 4th best conference right now. I think Wisconsin is better then they showed today, but still not as good as USC, Oklahoma, or LSU. I think that West Virginia is just as good as Wisc as well. Ohio St and Penn State are the next two best teams and I dont think that either of them are as good as Cal or UCLA or maybe even Oregon in the PAC-10. Ohio ST might be as good as Louisville or Rutgers but Penn St is not. So overall the depth in the Big Ten is not as good as the top 3 conferences.

Auburn disappointing, or is South Florida living up to the media darling status they've been getting all season? I don't know, but I wish I could actually watch the game, sounds like a good one.

Auburn is not a good football team. There's a reason they didn't get that much media attention to start the year.

Brandon Cox is mediocre at best, Brad Lester has yet to impress and the offensive line isn't close to what it was in recent years. The defense is about the only bright spot for the Tigers, but even that will deteriorate if the offense can't put together any drives.

I've been saying since late last year, Auburn is not one of the better teams in the SEC right now.

For some reason, UNLV has given the Badgers fits for the past few years. One of the most miserable days of my life was when the Badgers lost to UNLV at Camp Randall in the pouring rain about 3 or 4 years ago. I didn't bring anything for the rain, got soaked, and was sick for a solid week afterwards.

Blech.

I saw that, and I had a moment of concern, until I realized that Webber International is to the Citadel as Citadel is to Wisconsin.

Webber isn't even if the division formerly known as I-AA.

UNLV has always given the Badgers trouble. they even lost to them one year. why they chose them again as an alleged patsy I have no idea. for some reason they always take these teams lightly, and have had their asses handed to them before.

I think LSU proved tonight that they are as good as their ranking.

Best team in the nation without a doubt right now. Or, Va Tech was incredibly overrated (possible after their poor showing against ECU last week).

The SEC East teams are basically playing for the right to be the second best team in the SEC this year. I highly doubt any of them can beat LSU in the championship game.

didn't see your post, but obviously I am aware.

did you get the game tonight? BTN on Dish Network gave me every single Big Ten game that wasn't national today, except the one I wanted to watch (well, in retrospect, I don't think I would have wanted to watch).

I just hope LSU doesn't have a let down and lose a game they should win.

Their defense will keep them in most games. The front seven is likely the best in the nation.

Yeah their defense is really really good. I thought coming into the season it would be them vs Wisc in the championship. Now I think that it will be LSU vs Oklahoma. I just dont see any team in the Big12 stopping Oklahoma either.

Ok, after watching the game and drinking my sorrows away:

1) Jimmy Clausen is LIGHT-YEARS ahead of where Quinn was as a freshman. I can't emphasize this enough. Once Charlie took the damn diapers off and let Jimmy actually throw (i.e. when it was too late), he looked incredible. He threw an absolutely perfect pass to Kamara in the endzone that he dropped, threw an amazing toss to Parris while being dragged down off his feet that Parris couldn't hold onto and didn't take even one risky chance. I've never seen a freshman look that good.

2) Other than Darrin Walls and possibly Tom Zbikowski, every other player on that team blew. God, that was embarrassing. The line was even worse than against GT, the running backs did less than nothing, the receivers couldn't catch a damn thing, etc.

3) I've never felt more pity in my life than I felt for that defense tonight. Once again, they kept coming up with big stops against PSU until the offense's absurd ineptitude took too much of a toll on them.

4) We'd better beat Michigan next week. Hard as it may be to believe, this team isn't THAT far from being good, and UM seems to have quit on the season.

Nah, I followed online. I just have regular cable TV here.

me too. seemed to be unable to stop the short passing game. all I kept reading was Nixon for, Nixon for 12, Nixon for 7, Nixon for 11. it was driving me nuts. IIRC, UNLV runs the basketball offense, and the Badgers always suck against the basketball offense.

offense was terrible on third down.

What a win for LSU!

Geaux Tigers!

This defense is spectacular!

When your proudest academic achievement is landscape archietecture, you'd better be good at sports.

Here's to rooting for a miserable failure for the french-rooters1

while I agree to an extent with the point you are making, landscape architecture, while not intellectually challenging, is a very rigorous program. was at UW anyway.

WVU is better than Cal and Texas. LSU is playing better than anyone. The Gators have looked great their first two games. Tim Tebow has been great pitching the ball around. A QB led the Gators in rushing today and a tight end led them in receiving. Their defense's depth came into question today when Troy moved the ball effortlessly in the second half. That's the biggest question. The offense appears to be considerably more dynamic and explosive than last years.

Florida does look good but I dont think they will be able to beat LSU due to the lack of a good running back. I think tht LSU's defense it to fast to fall for all the trick runs they do with their QB's and WR's. At some point you have to juse be able to put the ball in the hands of a good running back to get you tough yards and i just dont know if they have the ability to do that against a great defense like LSU.

For a bad team, Troy's not a bad team, and they have that kind of quarterback that causes missed assignments. It's not surprising to see something like that happen late in a blowout. The Florida offense looks like a much more polished and explosive version of last year's.

I put Cal above Texas because they've looked better, and I put Texas ahead of WVA because I have more confidence in Texas's offense coming around than I do of WVA's defense stepping up when necessary. It's better than Louisville's, but that's not saying a lot. I think the 3 teams are pretty close together at this point.
